Greetings, Sisters and Brothers in Christ Jesus!
What a wonderful celebration of Pentecost Sunday!! The Holy Spirit was certainly
blowing through our worship as we confirmed six incredible budding young adults!
Rachel, Kris, Rory, Zach, Parker and Aidan worked (sort of) hard as we studied
Luther’s Small Catechism. And though I know they learned a lot and gained a
better understanding of what it means to follow Jesus, Norma Messman and I also
learned a lot about the young people of today. That these folks are bright and
smart and caring is pretty obvious, but the depth of their knowledge and concerns
was more than I ever dreamed.
Faith Lutheran Church is blessed with more energy and vitality with the inclusion
of our new baptized and confirmed members.
Another wonderful step into the ministry field outside our doors is the hiring of our
own Isabella Kenny to be our Youth-of-all-ages program coordinator. Isabella
brings: her deep love for Faith Lutheran and all its people; her experience working
with the Oregon Lutheran Youth Organization in various leadership positions; her
handle on how young people think and behave (she has connections!); her
teaching of our youngest Sunday school children; her experience with Albany
Parks and Recreation working with small children; her heart for Jesus and his
commandments to love God, and to love our neighbor; her studies at OSU, and
many other attributes and skills to this important ministry. She has already been
deeply involved working with our Youth as a volunteer, now she will be able to
expand her involvement.
You all know who Isabella is, so please welcome her and give her your blessing
when you see her. And as you welcome her, also determine to be supportive of
her endeavors on behalf of the young people of Faith and beyond. Isabella comes
to this position with new ideas and zeal. Your support might be helping to finance

events, or it might involve helping out at an event. Mostly, your actual presence at functions (bowling, haunted house, movie nights,
etc.) is always welcome and helps show our young people that other members of the congregation consider this ministry as very
important: not only for the lives of the youths, but for the life of Christ’s Church.
And, speaking of the life of Christ’s Church, especially this one at 930 Queen Ave SW, I’m not kidding when I say that the Spirit
was indeed moving and blowing and stirring us up on Pentecost Sunday. The sanctuary was enlivened with all the red clothes, the
smiles of joy, the laughter, and the genuine passing of the peace, the songs and maybe even some of the sermon. Now our job is
to take that Spirit with us into our particular spheres of influence (pretty much anywhere we are at any time).
As you might remember, we put out the Paschal candle that has been burning every Sunday since Easter. We put it out because
now the Spirit of Christ has been poured out upon us, Christ’s people, so that we can be “little Christs” in the world today. When
you come to worship, dip your hand in the baptismal water on your way to Holy Communion, make the sign of the cross, and
glance at the Paschal candle and remember: the flame that was there now rests on and in you. And be renewed in the confidence
that God doesn’t call us and send us out without giving us what we need to be confident of God’s love for each of us and for each
of those we meet along the way.
We are the light of the world: fed at the Table, strengthened for the days ahead, empowered by God’s never-ending love for us,
and sent to be that love for all.
Don’t forget to come to worship and be involved in activities as we move into summer and vacations and all like that. Don’t forget to
give voice to your ideas, desires, concerns, even if you think they don’t matter. They do!! And, of course, don’t neglect to continue
your financial offering when you aren’t able to be at Faith Lutheran. Ministry continues even when we are away. (Part of that
ministry is helping support our Youth-of-all-ages ministry.)
In the meantime, as always, give thanks to God for sending Jesus, give thanks to Jesus for sending the Holy Spirit, and give
thanks to the Holy Spirit for residing in us!! What an awesome God we serve.
Bless your hearts, bless your summer plans.
Your sister in Christ Jesus,
Pr Dawn

Committee
Hello all!
As some of you may know, I recently
(finally) earned Eagle, and although it is a
little awkward to throw a party for yourself, I
have been informed that my final task is to
plan an Eagle Court of Honor. I look
forward to this as an opportunity to thank
the many people who have had such an
impact on me throughout my Scouting
career, and then regret all those nice things
I said while my mentors and peers tell
embarrassing and/or hilarious stories about my time in the Troop. This
will be at 2 pm, Sunday, June 7th at Faith Lutheran. I expect the event
itself won't take more than an hour, and dessert and refreshments will
be served afterwards. You're all invited, and I hope to see you all there!

The Quilters have completed their Spring Quilt distribution. This year they were distributed
as follows:
1 To Synod Assembly for their quilt auction.
10 to the Cornerstone for distribution to homeless youth.
20 to Fish for distribution to the Fish guest house and others as need
arises.
5 to GAPS Foundation for auction items to raise funds for losses due to the fire at South Albany
High.
20 to Albany Helping Hands.
15 of the 20 will be used by guests at the shelter.
5 were donated as auction items and raised $450 for the shelter.
15 to the Hospice House.
20 sold for $35 each with funds to be used by the quilters to cover costs of batting, shipping in
the Fall, and to purchase other needed supplies.
In all a total of 91 quilts were dispersed.

Greetings from the Day Camp Steering Committee!
We are planning an exciting opportunity for Christian growth in your child/
children. It’s Day Camp with Camp Lutherwood! Planned for July 19 – 23,
for youth going into 1st through sixth grade.
Day Camp is a joint effort between Faith Lutheran and Camp Lutherwood
Ministries. Lutherwood staff, together with people from our congregation, will
create the Day Camp experience! We will begin at 9 a.m., and end at 3
p.m., Monday through Thursday. On Friday, the week concludes at 11:30
a.m.
On Thursday at 2 p.m. we will have a talent show. We invite and encourage family and congregation to come.
Family and the congregation are welcome to join at any time, to observe and participate.
The purpose of Day Camp is to help children grow in faith. The secret to Day Camp is its use of enthusiastic and
knowledgeable staff who bring music, games, crafts, creation activities and Bible Study to life for young people!
We’d love to have your child/children be part of Day Camp. There is no cost although a free will offering would be
graciously accepted. Please plan to register as soon as possible so we can know how many to plan for.
Registration forms are available at the church office.
We look forward to seeing you at Day Camp, July 19 – 23, and sharing this great experience with you and your
child/children.
We are delighted and thankful for your support. We can use volunteers to help staff with activities; by fixing and
serving snacks and lunch to campers and staff; by helping housekeeping tasks and by praying.
God’s Peace,
Day Camp Steering Committee
P.S. Day Camp is an outreach for our congregation. Please invite any children you know of, not just
children in your family. Thanks.

Barn Raising
I am so grateful for the 25 folks who came last Saturday morning. We actually completed this phase within 2 hours instead of the 4 we had predicted. The weather was good – we did have a shower around 11:00 but we had completed work by then. The next phase will include raising the trusses and putting on the roof. That step is scheduled for June 13 from 8:00 – 4:00, although if we have another good turnout we will be done prior to 4:00. The volunteers’ hard work was admired by residents who were surprised to see so many swinging hammers at once. Your support of the Mennonite Village mission was evident.
Gratefully, Ron Litwiller, President/CEO
On Saturday, June 13 - 8:00-4:00 we will raise the trusses and attach roof and siding; lunch will be provided. We are looking for 40 volunteers. The shelter is located next to Quail Run at 2525 47th Ave SE, Albany Please RSVP during business hours to the Receptionist at (541)928-7232 or after hours to Lisa Ebersole at (541)704-4207.

Women’s Retreat July 31—August 2, $100 per person
“Need some time for reflection and relaxation? Join us for a weekend amidst the fellowship of other women to explore and contemplate the beauty of creation and what it means to just be. Our talented camp staff leads all the activities, including games, nature walks, Bible study and worship. Individuals and groups welcome. Rev. Laurie Larson Caesar is the Lutheran-half of the pastoral leadership of Mission of the Atonement, and though she's been journeying with this Catholic and Lutheran community for more than 18 years, she is still in love with them, with the wet, wild wonderland that is the Pacific Northwest, and with this odd and wondrous vocation called ordained ministry She enjoys leading spirituality retreats, learning from the ancient wisdom and faith practices of others in other traditions, walking in the woods of the Pacific Northwest, playing basketball, storytelling, learning claw-hammer banjo and listening to any music that is raw, honest and true.”
