    WHAT IS FAITH?

    IS A SUPERNATURAL VIRTUE

ASSISTED BY THE GRACE OF GOD

    WHAT IS SOLA FIDE?

IS A JUSTIFICATION THAT WE CAN

    BE SAVED BY FAITH ALONE

    WHAT IS SALVATION?

Salvation means overcoming sin and the basic

flaws of the human condition and returning to

the ultimate, longed-for state of spirituality.

The example we have of salvation is Christ's

Resurrection, in which he was transformed

into a new mode of existence. That

transformation is what we are all striving toachieve.

    DIFFERENT VIEWS ON SALVATION:

    FOR THE ORTHODOX CHRISTIANS...

...Salvation is "faith working through love" and

should be seen as a life long process. The

Ultimate aim of every Orthodox Christian is to

obtain Theosis or union with God. This is done

through living a holy life and seeking to draw

    closer to God.

    FOR PROTESTANTS...

... Salvation is the free and unmerited gift ofGod to man. It is obtained by grace throughfaith in Christ alone. Through Christ's atoningsacrifice, we are rendered acceptable to Godand judged righteous (justified) in his sight.

    FOR ROMAN CATHOLICS...

... We are saved by grace, specifically sanctifying

grace, which is given initially through

    Baptismal regeneration and then maintained

through the Sacraments, which are 'channels

    of grace'.

SINCE WE ARE UNDER THE ROMAN

CATHOLIC CHURCH, WE BELIEVE THAT WE

ARE SAVED BY THE GRACE THAT GOD HAS

    GIVEN TO US.

ARE WE SAVED BY FAITH ALONE?

THE SIMPLE ANSWER IS THAT WE ARE SAVED

BY GRACE, AND NOT BY WORKS. BUT SAYING,

I BELIEVE, AND DOING NOTHING IS NOT

    ENOUGH.

    WHAT IS THE RELATIONSHIP

    BETWEEN THE TWO?

THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE TWO IS

SIMPLE. WE ARE SAVED BY FAITH, NOT BY

WORKS. BUT, ONCE SAVED, WE DO GOOD

WORKS BECAUSE WE ARE ALREADY SAVED.

    SOME QUESTIONS...

Why do Catholics try to earn their own salvation, despite the

fact that salvation can only come as a free gift from Jesus

    Christ?

Catholics fully recognize that Jesus Christ died on the Cross for

their sins and thus ``opened the gates of Heaven,'' and that

salvation is a free gift which no amount of human good deeds

could ever earn. Catholics receive Christ's saving and

sanctifying grace, and Christ Himself, into their souls when

they are baptized. Yet they also know that Christ hasestablished certain conditions for entry into eternal happiness

    in Heaven.
