Spanish, achieving a B+ or better in the language the previous year. Keeping with Prep’s credo of men for others, one of the Society’s primary goals is service to the community. Stock Market Club Moderator: Mrs. Kristina Leonardo The Stock Market Club was formed so that students might participate in the Stock Market Simulation as sponsored by the Connecticut Post newspaper. Students form teams consisting of one to five players. The team begins the game with a credit of $100,000 which they use to "invest" in the New York, American or NASDAQ Stock Markets. They can buy, sell, buy on margin, or sell stocks short. They are charged commissions and interest exactly as if they were trading in the real market. At the end of ten weeks, the team whose stocks are worth the most money is declared the winner. The actual number of (Cont.) teams playing through the Connecticut Post varies from game to game. There are two Stock Market Simulations every year. Fairfield Prep participates in both (Fall and Spring). We often have ten teams involved but they do not consist of the same students from game to game. The purpose of the game is to have fun while learning the mechanics of investing in the

Page 16: Fairfield Prep encourages its students to participate in ... · EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES 2015-2016 African-American Culture Club Moderator: Mrs. Alecia Thomas The African-American

Stock Market. While investment strategies are discussed, the game is too short to provide investment strategies that would be applicable to real life situations. The game does accurately simulate investment opportunities available in the stock market and allows students to experiment with options they might not ordinarily use when real money was at stake. Fairfield Prep Teams have been the winners in the Connecticut Post group on three separate occasions. Prizes are offered by the Connecticut Post and by Fairfield Prep for an in-house competition.
