Happy 25th Anniversary to the Fairfield County Irish Festival! That first year at Ludlowe High School field, the idea of showcasing our Irish culture came to fruition under the guidance of Pat Boland, Pat Daly, Bill Hughes, Pat Lawless and Patty K. Lenihan, the 1988 Festival Co-Chairs. That first Festival Journal said “...the Festival aims to become an enduring presence on Fairfield County’s calendar of events.” How true those words would become. That first year, on Father’s Day Weekend, the crowds listened to the music of Dermot O’Brien, Pat Roper and Music in the Glen among other bands, dancers and exhibits. A tradition was born.
Over the next 25 years, the Festival has flourished and grown under the guidance of a dozen Festival Chairs, hundreds of Committee members and thousands of dedicated Festival volunteers, without whom none of this would be possible. We have been treated to the outstanding musi-cal talent of The Clancy Brothers and Robbie O’Connell, Mick Maloney, Stockton’s Wing, The Saw Doctors, Maura O’Connell, John Whelan and scores of musicians from near and far. We have raised our tents at Lud-lowe Field, Jennings Beach, Seaside Park and Indian Ledge Park. This is our 4th year at our “home” on the campus of Fairfield University and we are truly grateful to the University for hosting our 25th celebration of Irish culture over Father’s Day Weekend.
I would like to express my sincere gratitude to my “2nd family” - the 2013 Irish Festival Committee whose unwavering dedication and brilliant sense of humor makes it possible to offer the warmest of Irish welcomes to everyone who passes through our gates.

Welcome to the 25th Anniversary of the Fairfield County Irish Festi-val. The Festival is presented each year by FEILE, Incorporated, a 501(c)(3) public charity, whose purpose is to promote an apprecia-tion of Irish arts and culture. We are once again proud to be able to showcase our Irish heritage and hospitality to all who join us over our 3 day celebration on the campus of Fairfield University.Among the many people who have made the Irish Festival at Fair-field possible, the Board of Directors of FEILE especially wishes to acknowledge the warm welcome we have received from Rev. Jeffrey P. von Arx, S.J., President of Fairfield University and Vice Presidents Mark Reed and Jim Fitzpatrick of the Student Affairs Department.
Over the past 25 years, the Festival has been supported by thou-sands of dedicated volunteers who give of their time and talent. Some have been with us for 25 years, some for only one. Some left us too early. I hope while you are on campus, that you take time to stop by and visit with faculty who are involved in the University’s Irish Studies Program that explores the contributions of Ireland to the world in terms of its literature, history, politics, film, and art. The Program also offers study abroad opportunities affiliated with the National Univer-sity of Ireland in Galway.

Fiddler Eileen Ivers has established herself as the pre-eminent exponent of the Irish fiddle in the world today.
It has been said that the task of respectfully exploring the traditions and progression of the Celtic fiddle is quite literally on Eileen Ivers’ shoulders. The Washington Post states, “She suggests the future of the Celtic fiddle.”
She’s been called a “sensation” by Billboard magazine and “the Jimi Hendrix of the violin” by The New York Times. “She electrifies the crowd with a dazzling show of virtuoso playing” says The Irish Times. Her latest CD, entitled ‘Eileen Ivers & Immigrant Soul’ continues to display why Ivers is hailed as one of the great innovators and pioneers in the Celtic and World music genres.

in Dunstable, England, he was raised on the fiddle and pipe music of Ireland. Dunstable has a large Irish community, and his father, Denis, was from Ireland’s County Wexford. “Ours was a very traditional house-hold,” John says. “My father didn’t have any major vices – his only addiction was to Irish music.” Denis Whelan carried a reel-to-reel tape recorder to many shows, collecting hours of live music. Songs of home elicited sentimental tears, even when the words were not in English. “It was not the words but the emotion of the music that moved me”.

Jameson’s RevengeBack in 2006, a loosely connected group of Irish & American musicians living in The Bronx & Westchester would spontaneously meet up at different seisiuns around town from time to time to sit down, play, havea few laughs (pints) and let the tunes go where they may. After a short time they began to play various events and gigs at different music venues but no line-up would ever be the same from one gig to another. In March ‘08 they collaberated on and released a cd titled “Straight from the Bottle” in the hopes of featuring the music from these extremely talented players. To this day some folks still regard the album as: “one of the best Trad-Irish compilations no-one has ever heard”.
The EldersSince forming in 1998, The Elders have set the music scene on its ear, thanks to a skillful blend of American roots rock and amped-up Celtic folk;a cross-pollination of elements that is high-octane and progressive,yet rooted in tradition.
Employing a variety of instruments including guitars, drums, banjo,accordion, mandolin, piano & fiddle, these six gentlemen collectively create music that transcends the stereotypical notion of Celtic music.
