The mission of the Sacred Heart English Language Institute (ELI) is to provide high-quality instruction in English as a Second Language (ESL) and immersion into US culture to all students who are non-native English speakers. Helping them achieve their personal, academic, and professional goals, while recognizing and addressing the students’ individualized educational needs and cultural backgrounds.
ESL: INTENSIVE ENGLISH PROGRAM
SUMMER INSTITUTE FOR GLOBAL BUSINESS MANAGEMENT (SIGBM)
MEDIA PRODUCTION/MEDIA LITERACY SUMMER INSTITUTE (MPML)
(For students currently enrolled in any university)
The four-week MPML is a dynamic hands-on program designed for students interested in careers in the ever-changing 21st century communications and media industries.
• Dates: 4 week program, starts in July each year• Week 1: Capturing the Image• Week 2: Digital Storytelling• Week 3: The Television Studio• Week 4: Broadcast Production• Credits: Students are eligible to receive
3 academic credits upon enrollent in a related SHU Graduate Program.
• Fees: estimated $4,000 fee including instruction materials, room, field trips and meals.

The four-week summer SIGBM program provides a practical framework for effective global business management. Topics include: Business and Financial Analysis; Strategic planning; Global financial markets; Leadership; Working Effectively in Teams; Critical Thinking and Decision Making; and other business topics.
• Dates: 4 week program, starts in July each year• Credits: Students receive 3 transfer credits and
GMAT waiver when applying to SHU business graduate programs.
• Fees: estimated $4,000 fee including instruction materials, room, field trips and meals.
• Fully accredited by the Commission on English Language Accreditation (CEA)
• 8-week sessions, 5 start terms throughout the year. New sessions begin:
– August – October – January – March – May
• $2,600 per 8-week session.• 6 levels available, students take a placement test,
and are placed in courses that are relative to their proficiency level.
• Full-time students complete 20 hours of class time per week.
• Courses run Monday-Thursday from 9am-3pm. • Courses include:
– Writing – Listening & Speaking – Grammar – Reading
