*For the general population, the more arts classes taken, the higher the student achievement in all measures.

*For students on “free and reduced lunch” an indicator of socioeconomic levels, the more arts classes taken, the higher the student achievement in all measures.

*For students divided by ethnicity, the more arts classes taken, the higher the student achievement in all measures

*The more arts classes taken, the less likely a student is to dropout of the cohort group.

Learning Goal:

Art Teachers will understand the relationship between the Critical Analysis process in the Visual Arts and Common Core Literacy standards in reading, writing and speaking and listening.

 

Activity:

Select a Scholastic Art Magazine issue, connect to a museum them and find 2-4 works of art in the Museum of Fine Arts collection that reflect the connection. Through group collaboration, create a 1-2 minute presentation (movie or power point) that supports your connection.

Work can be photographed in museum without a flash.

4. Find content via web links, Scholastic Magazine online on selected works that support your analysis of the connection
