The History of the Foundation Course

Foundation courses have been running in one form or another since the early twentieth Century.

The modern Foundation Course has its roots partly in the preliminary course run at the Bauhaus, Germany, from 1919 to 1933.

Bauhaus teaching encouraged radical thinking and materials experimentation.

What is the point of doing the course, couldnt I just go straight onto a degree if I know what I want to do?Some degree courses take students straight from A level, however, the better University and Colleges will demand that you have studied a Foundation Course first. It develops critical and practical skills in a wide range of specialisms. You gain a deeper understanding of your specialism ready for degree level. Students that go straight from A Level to degree can often feel overwhelmed ,have a poorer experience and a lower class of degree as a result.

All the lecturers throughout the course helped and supported us well and were approachable. They constantly wanted us to experiment with a range of techniques and medias Ben Chatburn
