The course covers:
•Basics of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs)
•Ladder diagram programming
•Use of latches, timers and counters in common sequential automation problems
•Techniques of writing programs to deal with a wide range of practical problems
The course also serves as a lead-in for those who lack programming experience but wish to take the Certified Open PLC Engineer Course.
Certified Open PLC Engineer Course
Teaches delegates control system programming to the International Standard IEC 61131.
The course covers:
•Introduction to IEC 61131-3 and software engineering
•Structured programming using the LD, FBD and CFC languages
The PICC is located within the Automation Systems Centre (ASCent), which brings together training and research expertise in industrial automation, instrumentation and communication.
About Open PLC and IEC 61131
The international standard IEC 61131 supports modern software engineering methods which offer improved programs, easier maintenance and fault finding, reusable and transportable code. The result is a significant reduction in the number of programming errors and more reliable and maintainable control system software. Many companies now require that their control systems are programmed using IEC 61131.
Basic PLC Programming Course
The course provides an introduction to the basics of ladder diagram programming based on the widely adopted international standard IEC 61131.

The Certified Open PLC Engineer Course is fully accredited by PLCopen, the international association promoting manufacturer-independent control system programming.
Assessment is through multiple choice testing of theoretical understanding and practical testing of competency in application of IEC 61131-3 to real problems.
