AB540

AB540 Form

AB540 is NOT a scholarship, it only allows eligible students to pay the same tuition as a U.S. resident or citizen.

AB540 Form

AB540 is NOT a scholarship, it only allows eligible students to pay the same tuition as a U.S. resident or citizen.

Assembly Bill 540 is a bill passed on October 12, 2001 by Governor Gray Davis.

A student qualifies for AB540 if they:

Have attended a California high school for at least 3 years

Graduated from a CA High School (Or obtained equivalent for example GED)

Will file an affidavit with the college /university stating that he or she has filed an application to legalize his or her immigration status, or will file one.

DREAM Act

AB130Specific financial assistance(AB540 eligible students):

•Board of Governors (BOG) Fee Waiver •Institutional Student Aid: Student aid program administered by the attending college or university (i.e. State University Grant, UC Grant).

AB131Allows AB540 students to apply for and receive Cal Grants by California's public colleges and universities.

(Only if funding remains available after all California resident students have received Competitive awards that they are eligible for. Then they will be able to apply and compete).

The California Dream ACT 2011 authored by Gil Cedillo has two separate bills, ab130 and ab131

DREAM Act (Federal)

The DREAM Act (Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors) is a legislative proposal that would provide conditional permanent residency to certain undocumented residents.

If you meet the criteria:•Six years within which to obtain a two-year college degree or complete two-years of military service. •Chance to adjust your conditional permanent residency to U.S. citizenship.

Requirements:•You entered the country before the age of 16;•You graduate high school or obtain a GED;•You have good moral character (no criminal record); and•You have at least five years of continuous presence in the US
