Factoring out GCF

The first step in factoring  is to determine its greatest monomial factor.  If there is a greatest monomial factor other than 1, use the distributive property to rewrite the given polynomial as the product of this greatest monomial factor and a polynomial.

Example 1 Factor each polynomial.
