Your Turn! Pull out a half sheet of paper and answer the following problems. We will be turning these in.
Factor By Grouping (4 terms)
Step 1: See is there is a GCF in ALL the terms. If there is, then take him out and write on the outside
of brackets. Step 2: Pair up your terms using parenthesis. Step 3: Find the GCF of each pair and factor them out. Step 4: Check that the remaining factors are the same. Step 5: Factor the remaining ones out.
Stick them in their own set of parenthesis, and whatever is remaining in the other set.
Step 6: Check your answer.

Factor by the Box Method
Step 1: See is there is a GCF in ALL the terms. If there is, then take him out and write on the
outside of brackets. Step 2: Plug your 4 terms into “the box”. Step 3: Look at each column. Decide what the GCF
is of each and write it on the top. Step 4: Look at each row. Decide what the GCF is of
each and write it on the left. Step 5: Write the factors in parenthesis. Step 6: Check your answer
