What are Other Tobacco Products? Other Tobacco Products (OTPs) are any product that contains tobacco that does not meet the federal definition of a cigarette.
Other Tobacco Products Include: o Little Cigars/Cigarillos o Chewing Tobacco o Snuff/Dip o Cigars o Dissolvables –orbs, sticks,
strips, etc.
Most new tobacco products are designed to reduce the body’s physical reaction to smoke. This provides an easier entry to nicotine addiction – which often graduates to cigarette use.
Flavored cigarettes are now banned, but cigars labeled with fruit and candy names are still legal. Most OTPs are available with fruit or candy names and are packaged to resemble candy.
Smokeless products are appealing, in part, because they can be used without detection at school or other places where smoking is banned.
Other Tobacco Products are not taxed at the same rate as a pack of cigarettes, making them much cheaper in many cases than traditional cigarettes – increasing their appeal to youth. Some of these products retail for as little as $1 – increasing the chances a kid may try them.
