The scholarship program is funded by theOAS and the partner organizations: GCUB,CONACYT and AMEXCID. The OAS administers theprogram while PAHO/WHO provides monitoringand evaluation, along with technical guidance onresearch for health to scholarship recipients bypromoting the use of research to address regionalpolicies and priorities. PAHO/WHO offers acomprehensive toolkit of resources related to thePolicy on Research for Health (CD49/10) such as a“Research” dedicated site for the scholars, virtualcourse offerings, conference information, journalarticles, and potential practicum opportunities.

Over 680 professionals from 27 countries inthe Americas have received scholarships forgraduate studies in health at Brazilian and MexicanUniversities, thanks to agreements signed in 2014between the Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO), theOrganization of American States (OAS), the CoimbraGroup of Brazilian Universities (GCUB), and theMexican National Science and Technology Council(CONACYT) and the Mexican Agency forInternational Development Cooperation (AMEXCID).
This strategic alliance allows the OASscholarship program to cover health-relatedgraduate studies and collaborate with PAHO/WHOto promote research for health and supporthuman resources for health capacity with the goalof strengthening health systems.
