Elijah on Mount Carmel 1 Kings 18:1-46

After the 3 year drought, Ahab and his kingdom still didn’t get it—they continued to worship Baal

• Faith that God will demonstrate his power• Courage to confront Ahab & the 850 prophets of Baal head-on

Pepsi challenge

• God responds to Elijah’s call • Elijah rounded up all of the Baal prophets and killed them

Frustration & Depression 1 Kings 19:1-18

Jezebel’s death threat

• Exhausted from fighting what seemed to be a never-ending battle• Emotions overcame Elijah’s knowledge of God

• Elijah ran to hide and wanted to die• He traveled over 100 miles to Beersheba, then another 40 days & nights to Mount Horeb (Sinai)

God comforts, encourages and directs Elijah
