Bahrain International Airport is an international airport located in Muharraq, about 7 km northeastern the centre of the capital Manama. It is the primary hub for Gulf Air and Bahrain Air.

Bahrain International Airport has a three star rating from Skytrax's airport grading exercise along with seven other airports like : Abu Dhabi Airport, Dubai Airport, and Sydney Airport. In 2010, Bahrain Airport has been named as the winner of the Best Airport in the Middle East award at the Skytrax 2010 World Airport Awards.

In 2009, over 9 million passengers travelled through BIA , an increase of 3% over the previous year. The average growth over the Period 2000- 2009 was 10%

Bahrain International Airport Initial Situation

Since 2008, Bahrain Airport Company (BAC) is

responsible for managing and operating the Bahrain

International Airport. BAC’s core objectives are to

elevate the role of Bahrain International Airport as a

contributor to the economy and further enhance the

airport's status, infrastructure and facilities for the benefit

of all stakeholders and users of the airport.

.In 2009, BAC established a Joint venture with HOCHTIEF Facility Management in order to

manage all Facilities Management and Energy Management Service at BIA. For this purpose,

120 designed employees are transferred from BAC to the new joint venture company

HOCHTIEF Facility Management Bahrain Airport.

HOCHTIEF as a whole Group have a long and prestigious track record in the Airport Aviation sector.

One of the main HOCHTIEF hallmarks in the 1990s was airport construction.

In the early 1990s HOCHTIEF enlarged the airport facilities in Warsaw, Poland.

In the Mid-1990s the company helped modernize and enlarge the airport in Beirut, Lebanon, while it

continued operation. The project included a new landing strip over two miles long that reached far out into

the ocean, a 1,5 mile long breakwater, a new passenger Terminal with an annual capacity of six million

people, and a new coastal highway.

The company also acquired more than 40% shares in the Athens International Airport (AIA), and won

the major contract for planning, financing and building the new AIA in 1995. (BOOT Project)

Other major Airports build by HOCHTIEF:• Frankfurt /Main and Cologne Airports in Germany

• Jeddah Airport in Saudi Arabia – largest contract ever awarded to a single construction company

in 1975.In 1997, HOCHTIEF founded the HOCHTIEF AirPort GmbH subsidiary to focus on planning, financing and

operating airports worldwide, a field in which HOCHTIEF was investing as a second focus for its business in

addition to construction.

In the same Year, HOCHTIEF acquired shares in the Flughafen Dusseldorf GmbH and won a contract to

modernize and enlarge the Düsseldorf Airport.
