MISSION STATEMENTThe NYP‐PSO Guideline is a comprehensive resource for the planning and design of Physician Practice Offices around the region. By drawing from a wide range of resources and experiences the mission is to create environments of well‐being for our patients, family and staff by establishing a coherent set of guides that support real estate decisions, architectural design and documentation and furnishings specification. Programming criteria are based upon best practices and regulatory guidelines. Material and Finishes selections are based upon mid‐priced options from the NYP Interior Guidelines and comply with applicable codes and regulations.

PROJECT GOALS• Create a universal and scalable approach to the programming and design of physician practice offices that is highly functional, durable and aesthetically

appropriate with a focus on NYP branding and the propagation of consistent interiors • Enhanced patient and staff safety through the implementation of best ergonomic practices.• Balance the need to respect strongly‐held individual preferences by consistently applying institutional standards• Building an efficient design process by specifying proven products, with the potential of shortening project schedules.• Greater project budget control by anticipating costs related to interior projects

PLANNING• Corridor layout should support wayfinding and efficient use of space • Medical assistants can be located in the corridors, if the location allows for private telephone discussions between

staff and patients/families. Smaller practice office may required a separate enclosed area for the medical assistant(s)• Centrally located hand wash sinks must be placed in corridors with trash containers located nearby

BUILT‐IN MILLWORK• Corian countertops with integral back and sidesplash at all sink locations with integral stainless steel sink• Corian countertops with plastic laminate storage at medical assistant locations, metal furniture storage below

FINISHES• Paint color deployment should support wayfinding, one wall to be white with an opportunity to utilize an accent

color on the opposing wall

FURNITURE• Task chairs located in corridors to have glide in lieu of casters

WALL PROTECTION• 2” stainless steel, full height corner guards• Wall bumper or rub rail may be required by a particular groups practice with heavy cart traffic in the corridors

ACCESSORIES• Wall mounted chart holder outside of each exam room

ARTWORK• Art a key element of design intended to aid in comforting both patients and families through positive distraction. In

circulation areas it is be installed in locations to support wayfinding.

includes mandatory signage, directories, wayfinding, as well as patient services signs used for business communications.
