What Is “Interest”?
judge by result
or by symptoms: attention is voluntary + learner is involved in doing the task + there is enjoyment
→ exploring ways of increasing interest without much preparation: “tweaking” rather than creating.

• Challenge through using higher-order thinking skills (cf. Bloom):
• convergent: logical, critical• examples: connecting, prioritizing, classifying, identifying
causality/lack of causality, evaluating truth/falsehook, identifying inclusion/exclusion, detecting contradicions or tautologies, identifying logical necessity
• divergent: creative, “lateral”•creative: associations, solutions to a problem, answers to a
question, questions to an answer•lateral: thinking of unusual or original solutions to problems,
looking at things from an unconventional angle,“breaking rules”
