Welcome to the inaugural Festival of Art Culture and Environment of King Island – the ‘FACE’ of King Island April, 2019
ABOUT FACE FACEisacelebrationandexpressionofPlace–ofKingIslandandofthenaturalenvironmentthatsurroundsusall,whereverweare.Thenaturalenvironmentthatwerelyoncompletelyforourlivesandforoursenseofwell-being.FACEaimstohelpusrecognizeandcelebrateourintrinsicandfundamentallinkswiththenaturalworldthroughourartisticexpression–newandold,everydayandveryspecial–thethingswelove.FACEisalsoafund-raisingevent.KingIslandisbeautifulandunique.Muchofitswildlife-plantsandanimalslivenowhereelseintheworld.Tokeepitthiswaywemustlove,nurtureandcareforit.Wealreadyhaveendangeredbirdsandplantsandtheprotectionoftheseisparamount.Fundsraisedfromthis2019FACEwillhelpsupporttheWingsonKingprojectthatmonitorsthebirdsofKingIsland.ItwillhelpsupporttherecoveryofourcriticallyendangeredKingIslandsubspecies–theKingIslandBrownThornbillandKingIslandScrubtit.

Welcome to the “Birds in Our Lives” Exhibition and Silent Auction April2019 Thisexhibitionisacollectionofamazingartworksthathavebeendonatedcompletelyorinpart,bythirty-twoartiststohelpraisefundsfortheprotectionofKingIsland’suniquebirds.ArtistsfromasfarawayasGermanyandaroundAustralia,aswellasourownlocalartistshavesubmittednewworkspecificallyforthisexhibition.Somecarryimportantthoughtprovokingmessages,otherscelebratethebeauty,joyanddiversityofbirds.Fifty-nineartworksareavailableforsalethroughasilentauctionthatwillrunthroughoutApril,windingupataGalaeventonSaturday27thAprilwhenfinalbidswillbetaken,theauctionclosedandthesuccessfulbiddersannounced.ENJOYTHISEXCITINGANDINSIGHTFULEXHIBITIONandwhileyoudoTHINKABOUTHOWVALUABLEBIRDSARETOUSINSOMANYWAYS-ANDYETGLOBALLYONEINEIGHTBIRDSPECIESARETHREATENEDWITHEXTINCTIONTHROUGHHUMANBEHAVIOURS.TODAY,THEYNEEDOURPROTECTION.
