Can you believe it? We are going on our 26th year of this wonderful organization. Speaking of which---WOW! What a fantabulous 25th Anniversary Party we had! The food, the music, the room, the flowers…everything! And it couldn’t have been done without Phyllis, Ellie, Evelyn, Dottie, and Cynthia. We have received an outpouring of phone calls and emails from many who attended telling us what a great time they had! Thanks, Ladies! It was truly a pleasure to have you on my committee. Now, as I mentioned in previous newsletters, it’s a big job to run these affairs, and your help is greatly needed. When you send in an article or photo of interest, please include a donation so we may continue enjoying all of these wonderful events. Remember, every little bit helps! We will accept donations even if you don’t have an article you’d like to submit for publication. Really, we will. There is something else of great importance. If you can spare one day a month (except for the summer months), we would love to have you join our Board. We have three open seats, and I’m sure you would add some very interesting views. We want to keep this organization thriving, and you can help us do just that! Thank you. Going forward, we are excited about planning more events in the future. We will keep you posted as we firm up the dates and details. For now, I will leave you all with this memory: Back in the forties when smoking was a big part of our parents’ lives, there was a time when cigarette machines were all over the place. I grew up at 641 Walk Hill Street in Mattapan and attended theSolomon Lewenberg School. Some of the people I rememberare Bobby Drobnis, Sonny Stecker, Norman Dvorkis, BillyPinkofsky, George Peterson who I worked with delivering groceries on Blue Hill Ave. and the Kaizerman family at 46Wellington Hill St. (owners) of the Morton Café). Doris Paul, the smartest girl in school, Lita Aronson, Estelle Pliner andPhyllis Cohen. And the unforgettable Jerry Rodman (RodmanFord). When Jerry moved to Walk Hill St. we became closefriends. When he returned to his old neighborhood onMichigan ave. ( behind the Franklin Park Theater)to visit his friend Sheldon Adelson, I went with him.Sheldon’s nickname was Boo Boo . I am of course a Boston transplant. We who lived in Roxburywere tough and had to fight for what we wanted—even usgirls. I left Boston in the 50’s to pursue a career in motionpictures, but like so many others I left a piece of my heart inBoston. While appalled by what happened at this yearsmarathon –one has to be so proud of the bravery, camaraderie, determination and assistance that was renderedby all Bostonions. God Bless you. In the 20 years I havebeen writing letters about the need for far more security in thisnation. not much has changed. From Barbara Dekovner-Mayer, Encino, CA.

I will always be grateful to some of my oldest and dearestfriends who were and are among the founding members. GusBlaustein, Pinky and Elaine Kagno, Evelyn and Burt Nessen,Dave and Paula Landy, and Mel and Toby Kramer. Their dedication, persistence, and hard work were responsible for allthat has followed.I can’t believe that 65 plus years of friendship and memorieshave passed since our early days at grammar school and highschool, the New Style and Bowladrome, the park and the Fieldand everything in between! 2525thth Anniversary Reunion June 23, 2013 Anniversary Reunion June 23, 2013 Saturday Night, June 23rd 2013!

What a magical evening. “Turn Back the Hands of Time” sung byEddie Fisher in the early fifties.

Well, we did just that. We went back 25 years to the first of many“Great Reunions.”

Unfortunately, time has taken its toll and there were less peoplethan 25 years ago. That did not dim our spirits, camaraderie andenthusiasm. I found the atmosphere electric, the food great and theband outstanding. They seemed to appear on cue so as not to interfere with our (my) constant conversations.

Thanks to the committee for all the effort, time and love they putinto making this affair the fantastic success that it was!

For the past twenty-five years, we have had something very special---to belong to an organization that has given us the opportunity to stay in touch with so many of our old friends. The wonderful functions and 75+ newsletters have contributed tokeeping these friendships and memories alive throughout theyears.

I believe that we owe not just a vote of confidence but a standingovation to those many committee members for the countless andthankless hours they have spent putting together and maintainingthis great organization for all these years.

On June 23, 2013, the FFA celebrated the twenty-fifth year ofbeing founded by a group of friends just trying to hold on tomemories of the “hood.” It has evolved into a very exciting organization that has allowed us to hold on these memories andreconnect with friends from long ago. The party was a fabulous event which was attended by 152 members and it was held because of the very loyal board andespecially the efforts of the fabulous committee. As we all know, it is a tremendous undertaking and because ofall the planning and effort it takes, it is a true labor of love. Wethank you so very much for your dedication and hard work!

This organization has come a long way since that eventfulevening on June 4, 1988 at the Blue Hill Country Club wherewe had the first of many reunions.

On Sunday, June 23rd, 2013, at the Sheraton Hotel inNorwood, we celebrated the 25th anniversary…and what acelebration it was! We had members that came from near andfar. Some traveled by plane and cars to attend. The warmth, love, and energy that were generated in the room were felt byeveryone there. The flowers on the tables were beautiful andthe food was delicious.

Many of our members who are no longer with us were missedand remembered.

We owe many thanks to the board and committee for the outstanding job that they did to put this evening together.

The boss eyed him suspiciously. “Oh yeah? Then
