The birth of your baby is one of the most exciting times in your life. Bringing them home can also be kind of scary. Postpartum Care (home)- Top 5 tips for making sure you get through the first couple months and feel

good about your transition.

SLEEP- make sure you get enough sleep. That is critical because if you don't have enough sleep you're

going to feel overwhelmed, you're going to feel stressed, and you may possibly feel depressed.

SUPPORT-make sure you have enough support. Ask for help! Ask from your partner, family, friends or a

postpartum doula. Don't feel guilty, don't feel bad about it. It's the best way to get through the first few

months. Address PPD, Anxiety, OCD.

NUTRITION-keep healthy snacks around, prepare meals prior to delivery and store in freezer for easy

and fast preparation. Food gives you strength and energy to keep going!

LIMIT-the number of visitors, outside obligations and unnecessary errands. They can wait!

TIME FOR YOURSELF- Make sure you have enough time to watch a silly TV show, read a book or go for a

walk. Even if it's only for ten or 15 minutes a day, it's going to make a huge difference in how you feel

about yourself and about being a parent. You deserve it….If mama bear isn’t happy, nobody is happy

Safety proofing-MUST haves in house: Smoke detectors, carbon monoxide and fire extinguisher

Nursery (night lights, keep furniture away from windows, window latches, toilet paper towel roll, cord wraps, crib adjustments, monitors, crib out of direct draft from AC) Sleep safety-back to sleep, firm mattress, no crib bedding or stuffed animals, room sharing not bed sharing, BF, go to all appts/immuniztions (research that being vaccinated can decrease risk by 50%), keep away from smokers and don’t let them get overheated.
