Findlay light Opera Company Recognized The Findlay Light Opera Company is the 2013-2014 recipient of the Community Arts Awareness Award from The Arts Partnership, recognizing their efforts to increase an awareness of the arts throughout Findlay and Hancock County over the last few years and, in particularly, for their efforts to expand educational outreach. In November 2013 FLOC took an excerpt of their re-imagined version of H.M.S. Pinafore to The Arts Partnership’s School Day Performance program. This show, entitled The Lass Who Loved a Redshirt: U.S.S. Pinafore, combined the Gilbert & Sullivan masterpiece with the cult-classic Star Trek. In April 2014 FLOC transformed their traditional vocal music scholarship into the Eleanor S. Michell Performing Arts Scholarship. This $1,000 scholarship is awarded at a juried recital which features Hancock County High School Seniors planning to continue their studies in dance, vocal or instrumental performance at the collegiate level.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING

FROM YOUR FRIENDS

AT THE FORT FINDLAY

PLAYHOUSE!

Gift Certificates Available Christmas is just around the corner. It’s time to start thinking about your gift giving list, especially Uncle Charlie and Aunt Sue, who have everything they could ever want or need! Gift certificates are available at The Arts Partnership during regular business hours or you can contact the patron chairs. You can give your aunt and uncle a gift certificate and they can choose the show they want to see! No more, “gee thanks, it’s just what I wanted” as they put the gift back in the box and close the lid! Of course Christmas isn’t the only time you give gifts. How about a birthday present, a graduation present or a gift of a night out for your sweetie for Valentine’s Day? You can even purchase gift certificates good toward a year’s patronship. There is no expiration date on these gift certificates, and you may purchase them in any amount. Just stop by The Arts Partnership (Mon. - Fri. 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.) to make your purchase or email the patron committee for assistance ([email protected]).

U of F Helps Out at FFP By Tom Miller The University of Findlay provided the Fort Findlay Playhouse with seven students for the morning of August 16

th as part of

their Freshman Orientation Service Project. For this, all incoming freshmen are required to spend three hours volunteering in a local civic organization. FFP typically achieves over 40 man-hours of improvements in a Saturday morning. FFP takes advantage of this program to catch up on building and grounds maintenance. This year we focused on the exterior of the Annex, painting exposed wood around some of the windows. They also painted the interior red of our theater entrance doors. Additionally, some scrubbing was performed on the floor and seats of the theater. They also chopped a few weeds and

trimmed our large bushes. This is the eighth year we have benefitted from their efforts. Last year, we focused on the red of the east side of our building and painting the interior of our annex.

Auditions Scheduled From the FLOC website

The Findlay Light Opera Company will be holding open auditions for their 2015 season opening production of Forever Plaid, directed by Harry Stockton. When four young singers are killed in a car crash, they posthumously take the stage for one final gig in this goofy 1950s nostalgia trip. Forever Plaid is one of the most popular and successful musicals in recent memory. This deliciously fun revue is chock-full of classic barbershop quartet harmonies and pitch-perfect melodies! Auditions for Forever Plaid will be held on Friday, December 12 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. and on Saturday, December 13 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. Both dates will be held at the St. Andrew’s Annex, 214 W. Sandusky Street, Findlay, Ohio. You may audition at either date, but the director may ask you to stay or come back on Saturday to sing in a group. Each performer is asked to prepare 2 selections: one up-tempo number and one ballad which showcase their range and characterization. An accompanist will be provided. Performers should also be prepared to sing in a group from music provided at the audition. Finally, performers should be dressed for a simple movement exercise. Forever Plaid performances will be held on February 27, 28 and March 1, 2015. Detailed information on roles in the production, as well as a rehearsal schedule are available on the FLOC website (findlayopera.org).
