Obviously a one time slip is not going to be the answer. Give thanks in all circumstances. But not all circumstances would engender a feeling of thankfulness would they? Of course not! That is precisely the point and the challenge. Paul spent much of his ministry to Gentiles imprisoned in one way or another. When he writes these words he is likely not in the greatest of circumstances. Clearly the admonition requires looking beyond circumstances to find something(s) to be thankful about. The “in Christ Jesus” provides us with reason to give thanks – his love for us, presence with us, and assurance of the future fuels thankfulness. As an added bonus giving thanks in tis manner helps me look beyond my present circumstances. Don’t Worry: Give Thanks. Faith News November 2017

Give thanks (Ok that’s timely) in all circumstances (pretty idealistic) for this is God’s will for you … (so not really optional) in Christ Jesus. 1 Thessalonians 5:18 (Italics mine) This verse, like several others in Scripture initially strikes the reader as rather unrealistic and nearly impossible to perform. Maybe that is the intent; to paint an idealistic picture of something that should be done but can’t. God in his Word doesn’t routinely exhort us to do something we cannot do. But still …. Perhaps we can do a work-around of sorts. Maybe Paul got carried away and let something slip. However, he says a similar thing in Ephesians 5:20 20 always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Christmas is right around the corner. Help decorate the sanctuary for the Christmas season by sponsoring a poinsettia. A sign up sheet is located in the Narthex.

We will pick up the poinsettia and place it in the sanctuary during Christmas and you can take it home afterwards.

Please mark your checks with ‘poinsettia’ in the memo line and place in the offering plate.

Do you have questions, ideas, suggestions, concerns, would like to help but don’t know who to get in touch with?

Contact an Elder. Elders are assigned to families by the first letter of your last name. Elders are listed, along with their phone numbers, on page 3 of Faith News.

This all-Lutheran tradition includes over 100 participants from area Lutheran churches.

It's an experience of sight and sound and something

wonderful deep inside.

This is our 97th year! Presentations will be held at

First Lutheran Church, 13th and Utica in Tulsa, on

Saturday, December 2nd and Sunday, December 3rd.

Presentation times for both days are 5:00pm and 7:30pm.

(The 7:30pm services are less crowded & have better seating.)

The Sarah Circle cordially invites you to attend our annual

Christmas by Candlelight Tuesday, December 5 at 7:00 pm

This is an elegant evening of fellowship and fun. Tables will be decorated with candles,

Christmas dinnerware and décor.

Host a table. A host is asked to decorate a table, provide a table favor for the guests at

her table and provide a dessert. You can invite a table of friends or you just decorate for

anyone attending. If You have any questions, contact Kathy Doering 371-9767.

Progressive Dinner It is time to set time aside for the Family of Faith to gather together in fellowship and the

time to share each other's homes. The 2017 Christmas Progressive Dinner will be

Saturday, December 9th beginning at 6:00 p.m. A progressive dinner is a social occasion at which different courses of the meal are eaten at different

peoples homes. We will travel to a home for appetizers, then to a different home for the main course, then to church for dessert. To be a part of this fun gathering, sign-up on the sheet located at

the Information Table in the Narthex or the LWML Bulletin Board by the Great Room to indicate

which course of the dinner you would like to help with, or if you would like to share your home.

The dessert will be held at the Church. This is a great opportunity to meet your fellow Family of Faith members. (This is a gathering for adult members only.) Questions? Call Kathy Doering 371-9767.
