Nlcholsoo was born on Aug. 19, 1926 Boston, Mass., to Alfred and Jean Nicholson. 1 graduated from Roxbury Memortal High Sch01 where he excelled lnteUectualty and athletlcalty.

Nicholson was a graduate of Bowdo Coll09e's biggest and best Oass of 1950, where he played football ar competed on the track team. He was named Maine's OUt.standlr Athlete, AAU In 1950. A member of the Chi Pst fraternity, Nk:holso served on the fraternity's board of governors from 1953- 1978. A enthusiastic alumnus who won the Polar Bear Award for Outstandln Service and Devotion to Bowdoin College, Nicholson served as tho dass marshal for all d ass and college functions and was president o

ttle Bowdoin Oub of Rhode Island. He was also a member or tht Alumni Coundl trom 1968- 1972.

He began an acttve career In education as a teacher and coac:n at Sanford High School, where he won Maine's Football Coadl of the Year award In 1956. SCARBOROUGH - Dwight Clifford Nkk Nicholson, 79, formerly of Portland, died Dec. 24, 2005 at the Maine Veterans Home.

He was born In North Conway, N.H., the son of Theodore Clifford Nicholson and Ruth Coleman Nicholson. He attended Fryeburg schools, and was a graduate of Fryeburg Academy.

Nick then served in the U.S. Navy during World War ll, serving In the Asiatic-Pacific Theater of Operations aboard the USS Oneida.

It was while he was In the Navy that he met and married his w ife, the former Harriette Lawrence.

Nkk worked In managerial positions most of his life. He first work for Carnation, and later was a manager for Cushman's Bakery In Portland for several years.

He then took a position with Gn!nt's Dairy In Bangor, where his territory lnduded the Islands Downeast. While working for Grant's, Nick and his family lived In the Rockland area.

He was a 32nd degree Mason, and was a member of the Scottish Rite Bodies.

Nick was predeceased by his wife, who died April 14, 2005; and a son Cliff Nicholson, who died In 2004.

Surviving is a daughter, Paulette Sprague Ferguson and her husband Norman of St. Petersburg, Fla.; three grandchildren, Kim Dionne and her husband John of Bre-r, Allyson Sprague of Bangor, and Alyssa Nicholson of Newbury, Mass.; three great-grandchildren, Evan Dionne, Bridget Dionne, and Jakeb Clifford Dionne, all of Brewer; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at Conroy-Tully Crawford Funeral Home, 172 State St., Portland. Burial will be at a later date at Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Augusta.

He was a member of the Volunteers in Service to America MSTA> assigned to the Santee Sioux Indian Reservation in Nebraska and later with the Androscog­gin County Task For.;e on Human Needs.

Mr. Nicholson seJVed two tenns as a state legislator, was a fanner South Portland milk inspector and worked ror the Herlihy Milk Co. of Boston as assistant superin­tendent of production. He was later vice president of DuBois Chemical Co. in the Northeast region.

His first wife, Janice C. Nicholson, died in 1987. Swviving are his wife, Priscilla E. Nicholson of Cape

Elizabl.otb; a son, Gordon E. of Wmchester, Mass.; two daughten;, Mrs. Roger (Ruth) Perhan of Lynn, Mass., and Mr.>. He was born in Jamaica Plain, Mass., a son of Norman J. and Martha Swift Nicholson, and at­tended Revere, Mass., schools, Mount Herman Academy· and Bent­ley College, Boston.

Mr. Nicholson operated a dry cleaJ)ing business in Freeport for several years, and operated the Norfe Village Dry Cleaning Co. here unti he retired in 1975.

Mr. Nicholson was a membe'r of the Winthrop Rotary, Kora Temple Shrine, Lewiston, Freeport Lodge of Masons, Portland Scottish Rites, Portland ~onslstory and a life member of Kora Temple Chanters.

Surviving are his wife of 20 years, the former Geraldine Ladd; three sons, Grant of Boston, Clyde of Win­throp and Robert of Merritt Island, Fla.; two daughters, Dorothy Fia,nda­ca of Melrose, Mass., and Deborah Diamond of Winthrop; two step­daughters, Contance Burnham and Sue Ward Diamond, both of Win­throp; a stepson, Blaine Ladd of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; a sister, Frances Cbiarine of Freeport; and a brother,

FREEPORT - Paul A Nickerson, of 24 South St. died Tuesday morning at a Brunswick hospital, following a long illness.

He was born in Auburn, a son of Carl and Ethel Nickerson and attended local schools.

Mr. Nickerson was a lobstennan for most of his life. He was a member of the Cornerstone Masonic

Lodge. Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Evelyn Gilman

Nickerson of Freeport; a son, Paul E. Nickerson of Cumberland; a daughter, Audrey J. Kendall of Durham; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Ices for David William Nickels were at the residence in Searsport con­ducted by the Rev. William Vaughan, pastor of the Trinity Reform Church, East Belfast. The bearers were Llnooln Colcord, James H. Duncan, Myron P. Parker a.nd A. Story Trundy. Buria.l wa.s in the Elmwood Cemetery.

Mr. Nickels, 76, died at his home after a Jong illness. He was born in Searsport, a son of the late Captain Albert Z. Nickels, one of Searsport's famoua sea-faring men, and the late Elizabeth McGilvery Nickels, and baa lor.g been a !amillar figure 1n the town of Searsport.

In 1886 he married MIM Sarah Hussey of Presque Isle, who with one daughter and one son survive, Mlas Elizabeth Nickels and Albel W. Nick­els of Portland ; three grandchlldren, Margaret, Katherine and Carolyn Nickels of Portland, and one sister, Mrs. Harrington Nickels of Grafton.

For many years Mr. Nickels was in the employ of the· Great Northern Paper Company, drilling artesian wells and buying pulpwood. He was a member of Mariner's Lodge F. and A.M.

ROCKLAND and.W:FAST- Archie William Nickerson, 82, died at his home In Rockland, Sept. 30, 1992. He was born In Swanville, April 2, 1910, tfte son of Adelbert and Louise (Mer­ithew) Nickerson. He was a 1928 graduate of Crosby High School in Belfast: a 1936 graduate of Eastern State Normal School in Castine: a '1941 graduate of the University of Maine at Orono; and received a mas­ter's degree in 195.4. He was married Nov. 25, 1937, In Bangor to Ruth Fol­leH. He taught school in Maine and Connecticut and for many years was principal of the Sharon Center School in Sharon, Conn., before retiring to Rockland in 1971. He was a member of the Timothy Chase Masonic Lodge In Belfast for 61 years. Surviving are his wife of Rockland; two sons, Wil­liam and Robert Nickerson; two grandsons, Adam and Drew, all of California; three nephews and sever­al cousins. A graveside funeral ser· vice will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 3, at Grove Cemetery, Belfast, with the Rev. Marc Rustin officiating. Do­nations may be made to the Universi­ty of Maine Education Dept. Scholar­ship Fund, Orono 04469 or to the Kno­Wai-Lin, 1 Park Dr., Rockland 04841. Arrangements are by Young Funeral Home, Belmont Avenue. Belfast.

He is sur­vived by his wife of Stockton Springs; three children, Elmer Nick­erson Jr. of Belfast, April and Philip Nickerson, both of Se arsport; live : brother., Paul N. of Silsbee, Texas, Harold W. of Searsport, Roger 0. al Washington, Raymond E. of Sear­sport, Edwin 0 . of Stockton Springs; o sister, Alice Bartlett of Norway; and a grandson, Benjamin Edwin Wise of Belfast; many nieces, neph­ews and cousins. Emery Eugene Nickerson Sr. 1 . ~v mechanic at Bath Iron Works for 35 years · BATH - Emery Eugene Nickerson Sr, 74, of Bridge Street died Tuesday at his home after a brief illness.

He was born in Greene, a son of Jasper Albion and Viola Bubier Nickerson, and attended Greene and Morunouth schools.

He was a World Warn Air Force vetsra.n in the Pacific and served in all 50 slates.

Mr. Nickerson ·worl<ed as a mechanic at Bath Iron ,. Works for35years, retiring in 1985.

He was a member of the American Legion Smith Tobey . Post in Bath, the Disabled American Veterans, and was

an honorary member of the Nezinscot Lodge of Masons in Turner, where he received his 5(}-year pin. He attended United Church of Christ Congregational in Turner.

He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, and fishing. hunting and the outdoors.

Surviving are his wife, Macy Huntington Nickerson of Bath; two sons, Emery E. Jr. and Albion E., both of Phippsburg; three daughters, Sharon N. Snell of Brunswick, Cynthia N. Doyle of Phippsbw-g and Lori N. Blackwell of Dresden; a brother, Roy of Turner; two sis· ten, Phyllis Kenney ol Farmington and Lillian Leadbet­ter of Turner; 14 grandcbildren and three great-grandsons.

VISiting hours will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday with a Masonic seiVice at 6 p.m. during visiting hours at Mayo, Curtis and Hill Funeral Home, 819 High Sl A fu­neral senice will be beld at 2 p.m. Saturda,y at the funeral home with the Rev. PASSADUMKEAG - Everett W.' Nickerson, 82, husband of Ruth (Ches­ley) Nickerson, died Oct. 31 , 1993, at a Bangor hospital . He was born in Passadumkeag, Oct. 12, 1911 , the son of William Ernest and Elizabeth (Og­den) Nickerson. He was a graduate of Howland High School, worked in vari­ous occupations, and for 22 years was employed at Great Northern Paper Co. in East Millinocket. He attended the Passadumkeag Baptist Church. He was a member of Composite Lodge No. 168 AF & AM of Lagrange for 48 . years . In addition to his wife of 57 years, he is survived by a son and his wife, Wayne and Solly Nickerson of ' Passadumkeag; three grandchildren, ' Anne Milton and her husband, David of Howland, Nancy Simpson and her , husband, David of Passadumkeag, Raymond Nickerson and his wife, Nancy of Passadumkeag; seven great-grandchildren, Jeremy and Ja-' mie Milton. Megan and Heather Simp­son and Jenno, Kailee and Adam Nickerson; several nieces and neph­ews. He was predeceased by two sis­ters, Margaret Nickerson and Edna Nason. Friends m~y ~ call_ 7-9 Q.m.
