Newsletter 3 I feel that I am often saying at the beginning of my newsletter, that it has been another exciting week at Eynsham! However, there has really been much excitement across the school. The week began with a celebration of International Day which was organised by Miss Lopez. Each year group studied a different country and learnt about their culture and language as well as some of their food choices. Tuesday, saw Year 4 depart for Hill End, where they spent two days carrying out team building exercises. A big thank you to all the staff that gave up their time to supervise the children during this trip whose behaviour was exemplary throughout the two days. Thursday saw the BBC arriving to report on our Community Business Partnership Project. The objective of this project is to try and work with local businesses and industry in
carrying out developments within the school. The school needs approximately £1.5million pounds to carry out developments both internally and externally. Today, I was also interviewed on the radio about my vision for the school and trying to equip the children of Eynsham with the necessary tools to prepare them for their future lives and careers. If you know of a business or person that might be interested in supporting us, please let Lisa Denbow at the school office know. Finally, good luck to year 6 who depart for their residential next week, I am looking forward to hearing about their time spent away and the adventures that they have. WHAT HAS BEEN HAPPENING?

Year 3 & 4 Multi-skills Event
On Tuesday, Year 3 and 4 enjoyed a fantastic morning lead by Year 9 from
Bartholomew School. They took part in a Multi-Skill Event, developing physical
abilities and working in teams. The leaders trained hard and organised exciting
games for our Year 3 and 4 who enjoyed themselves doing races, competitions,
and movements. We were really impressed with their positive attitude and
enthusiasm!
International Day
As part of International Day Monday 30th September, Year 5 thoroughly enjoyed
learning from our fluent Bulgarian specialist, Miss K, who taught us all about her
countries traditions and cultures. The Year 5 children learnt lots of exciting things
including the Bulgarian alphabet and each child even made a traditional Bulgarian
snack called Sarmi: Stuffed Vine Leaves.
We are pleased to announce that we have chosen the Purple Mash online computing
resource to enhance the teaching and learning of the Computing National Curriculum.
Purple Mash is a whole world of fun, designed to be used by Primary aged children in the
classroom and at home. It provides exciting learning opportunities in one safe place. An
introductory letter will be sent out next week by your child’s class teacher.

Fish and Chip Supper: Screening of the BBC film ‘Expanding
the Classroom’
As you are aware, I have spent this week talking about the
history of the school on the TV and radio. Eynsham was
originally built in 1969 as a flagship school for both Oxfordshire
and the rest of the country. In the late 60s there was a move
away from traditional Victorian classrooms to open plan teaching
spaces. Eynsham was one of the first schools built in this fashion
and it was built in a completely open plan fashion. This innovative
design of classroom and progressive teaching methods attracted
the interest of BBC film makers as well as educationalists from
around the world. Approximately two years after the school was
opened, a film was made about this school entitled ‘Expanding
the Classroom’. Not long after I started working at Eynsham, I
found two BBC reels with this film footage on and over the
summer holidays I managed to get this footage converted into
digital format. The film is a wonderful insight into the history of
Eynsham and education in the late 60s/early 70s and we are
planning on holding a fundraising evening to show a screening of
this film. Please see below for details.
Invictus Games Athlete visiting the School
On Monday 14th October, Invictus Games athlete, Luke Delahunty will be
visiting the children to talk about healthy lifestyles and deliver a sponsored
fitness session for each class.
Today your child will be coming home with a sponsorship form, please can they have people sponsor them to
complete this workout session. The school will receive 60% of the sponsorship money raised which we will be
putting towards equipment for the playground. The children will have a ‘pupils voice’ during class to find out what
equipment they would like. See the next newsletter to see how they get on

Hill End Residential
This week Year 4 enjoyed a 2-residential at Hill End. As part of their Raiders and Invaders topic, the children experienced life as an Anglo-Saxon. This involved learning about weaponry, clothing, jobs, battle skills and burial customs.
The children thoroughly enjoyed a night away with their class mates and most slept very well! The residential provided the children with many opportunities for team building as well as developing greater independence.
‘It was great fun’ – Starfish class.
‘Life was hard for an Anglo-Saxon’ – Penguins class
Harvest Festival
A big thank you to all those have brought in donations for the Oxfordshire food bank. We are still collecting and
will be celebrating our collection of items during our Harvest assembly next Tuesday. If you still have items that
you wish to bring in, please ensure that you have done so by Wednesday.
PLEASE REMEMBER THAT WE ARE A ‘NO NUT’ SCHOOL
This includes anything in the children’s lunchboxes/snacks, cakes donated for cake sales etc. Some children in the school do suffer from potentially life-threatening conditions and it it therefore vital that we all do our best to ensure their safety. Thank you.

Introducing New Staff
My name is Mr Webberley and I joined Eynsham at the beginning of September. I have
loved working at Eynsham Community Primary School already. My responsibilities in school
include, Maths lead and LKS2 Phase Leader.
I have got to know alot of children in such a small space of time and they are all amazing.
All the children have been very welcoming as of course I am a new member of staff this
year.
Outside of school I have many hobbies, these include playing golf and football. I'm also a member of a local
running club. I'm aiming to run the London Marathon this coming year.
Year 5 Didcot Evacuation Experience On Thursday 19th September Year 5 had a brilliant day at Didcot. The children were dressed in a variety of different outfits ranging from evacuees to members of the Home Guard. The highlight of the day was an evacuation experience and being spoken to by a man who was 7 when the war broke out.
A few weeks ago year 5 were also visited by Corporal N Thompson of the RAF. He talked to the children about the Battle of Britain as well as taking the children onto the playground to teach them the flight formations of the RAF and Luftwaffe during the battle.
