    Summary: For purposes of centralization of print management and logging, it may be desirable to configure all Macs and Windows PC’s in an environment to print through ExtremeZ-IP print server queues. By doing this, all print jobs are routed through and logged by ExtremeZ-IP, allowing all print activity to be audited using ExtremeZ-IP. This document walks through the steps required to set up a Windows client computer to print to an ExtremeZ-IP Print Server. Configuration Overview:

    1. Add a new ‘local’ printer to the Windows client 2. Set up a new ‘Standard TCP/IP Port’ that points to the ExtremeZ-IP print server queue

    and assign it to this local printer 3. Configure the local printer type/driver

    Detailed Instructions: Before you begin setting up a Windows client to print to an ExtremeZ-IP print server, be sure that you have noted the print server name or IP address, print queue name, and printer make/model. You will need this information during setup of the printer. 1. Go to the Windows Control Panel and select “Printers and Faxes”. 2. Select “Add a printer” 3. At the “Welcome to the Add Printer Wizard” screen, click “Next”.

    4. Select “Local printer attached to this computer”, uncheck “Automatically detect and install

    my Plug and Play printer”, and click “Next”.

    5. Select “Create a new port”, choose “Standard TCP/IP Port”, and click “Next”.

    6. At the “Welcome to the Add Standard TCP/IP Printer Port Wizard” screen, click “Next”.

    7. For “Printer Name or IP Address”, enter the IP address of the ExtremeZ-IP print server you

    want to print to. For “Port Name”, enter the name of the ExtremeZ-IP print queue on that server you want to print to. Click “Next”.

    8. Choose “Custom” and click the “Settings…” button.

    9. Port Name and Printer Name or IP should be filled out with the correct settings given

    previously. Under Protocol, choose “LPR”, enter the ExtremeZ-IP print queue name under “LPR Settings/Queue Name:”, check “LPR Byte Counting Enabled”, and click “OK”.

    10. Click “Next”.

    11. Click “Finish”.

    12. Select your printer model and click “Next”.

    13. Change the Printer name if you like and select whether you’d like this printer to be the default Windows printer and click “Next”.

    14. Choose “Do not share this printer”.

    15. Print a test page if you like.

    16. Click “Finish” to compete the wizard and exit.

    17. You should now be able to print to the ExtremeZ-IP Print Server and confirm that the print job is recorded in the Print Processing Log.
