Benvenuti

On  behalf  of  the  faculty  of  the  Italian  Studies  Program  I  would  like  to  welcome  you  to  the  program  and  wish  you  success  in  this  field  of  study  as  well  as  in  your  college  career.  I  am  convinced  that  you  are  on  a  journey  of  intellectual  exploration,  friendly  interaction,  and  discovery  of  the  fascinating  world  of  Italy.  Dr.  Samuel  Ghelli,  Coordinator  of  Italian    Italian  Studies  Minor

The  Minor  in  Italian  Studies  is  an  interdisciplinary  program  which  explores  the  richness  and  variety  of  Italian  culture  as  it  developed  in  Italy  and  influenced  other  societies,  notably  in  the  United  States.  The  course  of  study  is  conducted  in  both  Italian  and  English  languages  and  focuses  attention  on  academic  courses  offered  by  various  departments  as  well  as  on  courses  offered  by  the  Foreign  Languages  Department.

Material  and  Mode  of  Instruction

For  each  Italian  class  at  the  100  level,  all  instructors  use  original  educational  materials.  Students  of  Italian  do  not  need  to  purchase  any  textbooks,  workbooks,  or  audio  and  video  files  as  these  can  simply  be  downloaded  from  Blackboard.  Textbooks,  workbooks,  dictionaries,  and  grammar  reviews  all  come  in  PDF.

In  all  Italian  language,  literature  and  culture  classes  instructors  always  concentrate  on  building  an  environment  that  is  flexible  enough  to  accommodate  each  student’s  different  ways  of  self-‐expression  and  to  inspire  his/her  intellectual  curiosity.  Our  instructors  are  willing  to  recognize  students’  individual  and  collective  needs  and  to  design  strategies  that  help  students  to  gain  knowledge  that  can  be  applied  in  their  own  lives.
