The annual scholarship of $2,500 is offered by the

Foundation Award
$3,000.00
The Scholarship is valued at up to $3,000. It recognizes
an English language learner graduating from a BC
secondary school who has combined academic
competence with school and community service, and
who wishes to further his/her education at a post-
secondary institution in British Columbia.
Please note that applicants for the David C. Lam/BC
TEAL ELL Scholarship must be documented permanent
residents of Canada. International students on student
visas are not eligible for this award.
Criteria:
Applicants are evaluated according to the following
criteria:
Must be a BC Grade 12 student who wishes to attend a
BC post-secondary institution
Documented English language coursework at the
secondary level (Grades 9 to 12)
Consistent improvement in academic courses at the
secondary level
Documented school or community service
Application Requirements:
Applicants are required to submit:
A short description of the applicant’s life before coming
to Canada
A personal essay (original copy signed by the applicant):
a. Two pages in length, double-spaced, approximately
500 words
b. Topic: How a post-secondary education will enable
the applicant to make a positive contribution to
Canadian society
Two letters of reference:
a. One from a teacher regarding academic performance
b. One from an administrator, counsellor, coach,
sponsor, or coordinator regarding service to others
Documented proof of permanent residency of Canadian
citizenship
Grade 9 to 11 transcripts, including all English language
coursework
Grade 12 transcripts to date

Denise Coutts Memorial
Scholarship

The Denise Coutts Memorial Scholarship was founded
in November 2014 after the sudden loss of Denise to
gynecological cancer. Denise was a pillar in the sport
community and non-profit sector and advocate for all
women and girls. Denise was a high level athlete,
volunteer, coach, promoter and builder. Her legacy will
be everlasting and the impact that she has left on others
is timeless.
Each year, two female student-athletes will be selected
and will receive a scholarship of $500 to pursue their
post-secondary education.
Applications can be made if the following criteria are
met:
1) Be a graduating grade 12 female student athlete
2) Have participated in high school and/or provincial
sports during the current school year
3) Have demonstrated outstanding leadership qualities
through volunteerism and sport
4) Have maintained a strong academic standing during

1.The Fraser Valley Basketball Commission awards
numerous scholarships to worthy boys and girls in the
Fraser Valley Zone. Successful candidates must be a
properly registered member of a Fraser Valley Zone Sr.
Boys or Girls Basketball team.
2.Scholarships shall be awarded to graduating student
athletes from Grade 12 who have the intention of
studying at any university or other post secondary
institution.
3.Candidates must complete the application in full and
provide all required information, documents, and letters
in order for their application to be considered.
4.A successful candidate will receive only one
scholarship from the FVBC. If a candidate has received
a scholarship from either the B C High School Boys
Basketball Association or the B C Secondary Schools
Girls Basketball Association he or she will not be
eligible to receive one from the FVBC.
5.A candidate must have proficiency in basketball, have
the capability of being accepted by
the university or post secondary school of his/her
choice, and demonstrate good citizenship, character, and
leadership.
