Exporting data from Camera – Using GPS-Photo Link GIS PROProcedure is critical

– Separate camera folders for each camera is required on the download computer.

• Downloads are automatically placed in a date folder

– Software transfers and converts the data (after set up)

– Staff member to delete data off camera and hand camera back.

The supervisors had no problems with the use of the cameras

Process is more technical. However this didn’t cause any problems at Etheridge.

Matching photo with defects is not a problem as directly linked

SD card failure. We had 1 occur. I suggest you buy the best SD cards. We used cheaper ones and changed after this occurred.

Saves a huge amount of time in processing the data. Ability to complete more Auditing.

Possibility that memo fields don’t get fill in. Didn’t seem to be a problem at Etheridge.

Having the road centreline and chainage in GIS makes the collection process far quicker than the manual method of assignment of road name and chainage.

GPS can not engage at time. Need to check this each time. Procedure was put in place to resolve this.

Location by GPS ensures accurate location in comparison with trip meter location. Where origin issues as well as trip meter accuracy is a common problem.

Future Development

• Use of GIS in the field, by Laptops or PDA, instead of using hard copy printouts.


Final comments• Database application requires consulting assistance

to prepare the submission.

• GPS Camera definitely made it easier for field collection, yet some importing processes are more complex. Time saved in field and processing make this the best method.

• A review of cost for implementation hasn’t been completed for this presentation.
