Wilmington, October 1, 2002 -- Continuing a tradition of innovation, Ion Track has
developed of a new desorption unit to increase performance in particle sampling
applications for its VaporTracer2 handheld explosives and narcotics detector. The
new desorption unit attachment allows the VaporTracer2 to use the same high
efficiency sampling system originally developed for Ion Track’s ITEMISER3.
The versatility of using a uniform sampling system for both instruments is unique to Ion
Track and promotes the expansion of sampling opportunities. Ion Track is proud to be
the only trace detector manufacturer that can offer this exclusive advantage to its
clientele.

The handheld detector’s new detachable front end permits operators
to more efficiently sample for traces of particles—much in the same
manner as one collects samples with Ion Track’s ITEMISER3—by wiping
surfaces with a trap.
Samples from surfaces suspected of being contaminated by microscopic
traces of explosives or narcotics are collected on the new sample trap
made from a specially designed re-usable material. This trap can be
used alone or with a sample wand that comes standard with each of
Ion Track’s VaporTracer2 and ITEMISER3 detection and identification
systems. The sample wand is ideal for flat or hard surfaces that are
better accessed with an extension, preventing the operator from
coming into direct contact with objects being tested for traces of
explosives or narcotics. In addition, the new teflon-coated traps do
not absorb moisture and are able to sample particles on damp or even
wet surfaces and then immediately be placed into the ITEMISER3 or
VaporTracer2 for analysis.
The ITEMISER3’s optional vacuum sample wand (above) uses another
unique sample trap material that is ideally suited for trapping the
vapors of controlled substances. Using the vacuum sample wand
allows both vapors and particles to be efficiently collected for a
more thorough sampling.
Ion Track Research and Development Engineer Steven Crook
states, “ITI strives to meet client needs on all levels—from
customer service to enhanced product design. Every day we try
to push the limits of trace detection and its applications. This
latest development of integrating our trace detectors
through compatible sampling systems not only widens the
window of sampling, but will inevitably simplify the
sampling process to those customers who own both
VaporTracer2 and ITEMISER3 products.”
