DAY 1: Juneau, Alaska/Embark ShipOur Forest Service Special Use Permit for TongassNational Forest enables you to hike and kayak inwild and remote areas of Southeast Alaska.
Explore Juneau and the Alaska State Museum withits sprawling collection of natural history andcultural artifacts. Settle into your cabin beforedinner. Later, explore the port of Juneau on yourown. (D)
DAY 2: Tracy Arm-Fords Terror WildernessVoyage into Tracy or Endicott Arm, both spectacularfjords, with waterfalls cascading from glaciallycarved walls. See the soaring Dawes or SouthSawyer Glacier up close and take a cruise in anexpedition landing craft for an unbeatable viewamong sculpted icebergs. Keep an eye out forharbor seals, harbor porpoises and arctic terns.(B,L,D)
DAY 3: PetersburgVisit the small, true Alaskan fishing town ofPetersburg on Mitkof Island, which still retains muchof its Norwegian heritage. Explore a uniqueSoutheast Alaskan ecosystem, the “muskeg,” withstunted trees and carnivorous plants. There is anopportunity for bike riding and an optionalflightseeing excursion. Enjoy a crab feast thisevening. (B,L,D)

DAY 4: Frederick Sound and Chatham StraitExplore along the rugged coast seeking outhumpback whales in their summer feeding grounds.Expert staff will interpret their life histories andbehaviors as we cruise the nutrient rich waters.Later we will explore the shoreline by kayak or goashore to explore the rainforest ecosystem. DAY 5: Icy Strait and the Inian IslandsExplore among the Inian Islands, where anabundance of Steller sea lions and sea ottersreside. We’ll search for marine mammals in the richwaters of Icy Strait and choose the perfect spotaround Chichagof Island to hike where sightings ofbald eagles are very common. (B,L,D)
DAY 6: Glacier Bay National ParkBy special permit, we explore Glacier Bay. Wildnessabounds—glaciers calving, mountain goats roam thesteep cliffs and brown bears patrol the shore;Steller sea lions and puffins live in the icy waters. Anative Tlingit cultural interpreter joins us to share thelore and legend of the area. We will also be joinedby a National Park Service Ranger. (B,L,D)

DAY 7: Southeast Alaska’s Islands, Bays andFjordsToday, nature is our guide. We may explore anisolated beach to take a closer look at tide pools,beachcomb, hike stunning forest trails, or see beartracks worn into the soil while walking an isolatedmeadow. If conditions permit, we will do somekayaking, always watching for marine andterrestrial life. (B,L,D)
DAY 8: Sitka/DisembarkAfter breakfast we disembark in Sitka, SoutheastAlaska’s only oceanfront town. Visit theonion-domed St. Michael’s Russian OrthodoxChurch. At the Raptor Rehabilitation Center, weenjoy close-up views of bald eagles, owls andother species normally seen at a distance. (B)
