The bedroom is where most of us go to escape. Adding some lush green foliage with air purifying properties can help create the perfect oasis to rest and relax in after a long day.

Including plants in indoor spaces has been associated with an improved sense of health and well-being. Although there are no hard & fast rules for choosing plants for each room in your home, and personal preference and light conditions are perhaps the most important factors, here are a few suggestions!

Great bedroom plant picks When choosing plants for your bedroom, be sure to factor in your light conditions & spacerequirements. We suggest picking plants with air cleaning properties to keep your room fresh & free of toxins for a restful nights sleep. Below are our top four picks...

Peace Lily (Spathiphyllum)Compact, often displaying white blooms, Peace Lilies do well in low to medium light conditions & are considered effective air-cleaning plants. Most have deep green foliage, but the variety ‘Domino’ features cream & green variegated leaves.

Parlour PalmA dense, bushy palm that thrives in low to medium light and grows to only 3 feet high. Perfect for softening hard edges and totally happy placed in a corner, or on a plant stand, where it makes everyone around it happy too!

bathroom spa companions

Every day life can be hectic. Why not create your own spa-like escape by adding lush, green foliage to your bathroom and plan a little getaway?

Make your bathroom a place of relaxation and escape. Adding a touch of greenery can go a long way. Many tropical plants will thrive in a bathroom due to the humid conditions. For a darker bathroom with little to no light from a window, adding some cut foliage can also do the trick!

Rattlesnake Plant (Calathea insignis)Calathea’s grow well in low to medium light and cherish a little extra humidity. Calathea insignis varieties feature narrow green leaves marked with bands or splashes of contrasting green hues. The leaves also feature velvety rose undersides – an added bonus!

Turn your bathroom into a spa getaway with these plant picks:

AnthuriumIf your bathroom enjoys bright light from a skylight or glass block window, Anthuriums are the perfect choice – they love the higher humidity found in most bathrooms! With glossy green leaves, Anthuriums are beautiful even when not in bloom, but their heart shaped flower bracts, in shades of red, pink and white are spectacular!

Spider PlantA tidy clump of arching variegated leaves that can be grown as a hanging plant or as a small specimen on a counter. A versatile foliage plant that will fit into any home décor – from contemporary to vintage – simply by choosing the perfect pot!

Other options to consider: Orchids, Ferns, Aloe Vera, Philodendrons, Bromeliads & Pothos Vines.

Succulents & CactiWith dozens of interesting varietiesand hundreds of display ideas, succulents & cacti are wonderful plants for a bright kitchen on a windowsill, counter or table centrepiece. Many feature strong visual forms which can be repeated in other rooms to draw your overall home décor together.

living rooms

Make a BOLD Statement

This is the perfect place to go big! Living rooms tend to have more room than other spaces in your home. Adding a large statement piece full of lush green foliage can make a big impact. As always, considering space and light requirements is important, but if you have the space, don’t shy away from picking a large focal piece.

Dracaena PalmsThere are many different types of Dracaena, each offering a different look with the same agreeable requirements. Some favourites:

Dragon tree (D. marginata) is usually multi-stemmed with narrow deep green leaves. As they mature, older leaves fall off, giving Dragon trees their tree-like appearance.

Corn Cane (D. massangeana) features thick straight stems topped by a clump of arching, variegated foliage.

Lemon Lime Draceana (D. dermensis ‘Lemon Lime’) is an eye-catching variety, featuring chartreuse leaves with gray-green centers and white stripes.

Monstera Plant (Philodendron)Big and beautiful! With multiple stems and large eye-catching foliage, Monsteras contribute to a lush tropical appearance and can be easily maintained to control size. Happy in medium to bright indirect light. Makes great cut foliage – perfect for a vase!

Fiddle Leaf Figs (Ficus lyrata)Fiddle leaf figs are considered perhaps a bit more difficult to grow, but their distinctive appearance makes for a dramatic focal point. Find a spot with lots of bright indirect light that avoids drafts and water carefully to keep the soil moist but not wet. This should keep your fiddle leaf fig happy!

Other options to consider: Hawaiian Schefflera, Parlour Palms, Rubber Plants, Ferns, Pothos Vines and Crotons.

Peace Lily (Spathiphyllum)Compact, often displaying bright white blooms, Peace Lilies do well in low to medium light conditions, considered to be effective air-cleaning plants. Most have bold, deep green foliage, but the variety ‘Domino’ features cream & green variegated leaves.

Terrariums & Succulent GardensTerrariums & succulent gardens require limited space on a desk, and are an excellent way to cultivate your “mini-jungle” or desert scape!

Other options to consider:

Pothos Vines, Sanseveria, Dracaena & Spider Plants.

ZZ PlantAlso known as Zamioculcus, ZZ plants are quite adaptable, with a forgiving disposition. Upright, then slightly arching glossy leaves go well with pots that display clean lines, perfect for offices striving for a contemporary appearance.

PalmsOften requested for reception areas or common rooms, there are a few varieties that are favoured for office use.Lady Palm – adaptable, featuring sturdy looking stems, lush and full, with dark green foliage.Bamboo Palm – Chosen for offices because it is slower growing, with a dense, compact growth habit. It doesn’t need as much light as other palms & has a beautiful shape.Kentia Palm – Slow growers, Kentia palms feature a “classic” palm appearance of long, dark green, arching fronds displaying from one to three trunks. plant up in style

Big or small, picking the perfect pot is important to finish off your home decor. From rustic and natural terracotta, to sleek and modern high gloss or industrial and modern cement, there are plenty of options to choose from.

Now that you have the perfect plant for the perfect space, a pot is required. Keep in mind your overall home decor and space to ensure the pot you choose will work with your style. Another important thing to keep in mind is drainage holes in the pot you select. Many plants do not like to sit in water, so ensuring proper drainage is key. Many smaller, decorative pots do not have drainage holes, but this is not a big deal. Simply take out your plant during watering, or for plants like succulents andcacti, just be mindful to not over-water.
