2. An introduction to search engines
This chapter provides an overview of the different types of search engine and give information on how they collect their data, how they return it to you and the advantages and disadvantages they have.
3. The Google experience
This chapter explores Google the search engine and the company itself and consider its strengths and weaknesses.
4. Other free-text search engines
This chapter consider some of the other search engines including Bing, Yahoo! Search, Blekko, DuckDuckGo and Polyfetch and looks at their strengths and weaknesses.
5. Directory- and category-based search engines
This chapter looks at both directory based search engines (like Yahoo! Directory) and category-based search engines (like iSeek), investigates why they are useful and shows where you can find them.
6. Multi- and meta-search engines
This chapter looks at the advantages and disadvantages of multi-search engines (which search many other search engines from one page) and meta-search engines (which pass on a query to other search engines and de-duplicate the results).
7. Social media search engines
This chapter looks at social media search engines that provide searchers with information not provided by traditional search engines. Social media search engines investigated include Socialmention, Facebook Graph Search and Lanyrd.
8. Visual searching
