Meaning: showing imagined things instead of showing what people or objects actually look like
abstract (adjective)
Example: I like realistic art more than abstract art because I can tell what things are supposed to be.
Meaning: something whole formed in a certain way from parts
composition (noun)
Example: This painting has a balanced composition, since it shows half sky and half ground.
Meaning: a public display of works of art or objects of special interest
exhibition (noun)
Example: Mr. O’Callaghan’s art class will have an exhibition in the spring. All pieces will be student-created.
Meaning: a drawing, painting, or photograph of a person
portrait (noun)
Example: The portrait of your sister looks exactly like her.
Meaning: the effect that something has on something else
impact (noun)
Example: William’s painting had a great effect on me; I will never look at the old oak tree the same way.
