Its former relationship to mourning, death and mystery has been taken over with the connotation that it is urban, sophisticated and most importantly, an attitude.

• Black, and other very dark background color heuristics, serves as a platform for textually driven sites.

• White, for descriptive text, is a normal design technique for ease of reading against a dark background and it is again reminiscent of contemporary deigning trends. (Think of the new popularity of black and white photography.)
