STRATEGIC PLAN FOR RIVER BASIN IN VIET NAM (UNESCAP – 2003)
The Vu Gia‐Thu Bon River basin covers the Quang Nam Province and Da Nang Municipality
Development of hydropower, industry and eco‐tourism has made this basin a major economic growth centre of the country
SPM Workshop helped upstream and downstream parties appreciate opportunities to attract investments for development
A clear programme of priority activities was established and attracted keen interest and commitment of local authorities
The central Government has now agreed to advance its plan to establish the river basin organization in 2004, instead of 2005

WFE IN VGTB RIVER BASIN: PROBLEMS OR
OPPORTUNITIES Water problems become more critical for socio‐
economic development. Disputes over water are increasing with increasing participation of private sector
Lack of plans to use existing infrastructure: VGTB River Basin Organization established in 2004; Road maps for investment developed in 2009; Land Use and Climate Change Interactions in VGTB (LUCCi)
WFE Nexus: Keen interest of key stakeholders on implications of the Nexus, but no clear process to translate interest into policy and decision making
Some studies have started to identify policy options. Further efforts are necessary
