Experience of Community-of- Practice Networks Capacity Building for Sustainable Development Strategies UNOSD Workshop Nov , 2012 Incheon, ROK Context EEAC activity since 1993 ESDN activity since OECD/UNDSD Expert Meeting in Stockholm Countries around world at various stages in strategy-making ESDN launches website Potential to emulate ESDN approach in other regions was identified 2008 follow-up OECD/UNDSD meeting in Bangkok Idea for regional network discussed IISD and IGES create SDplanNet-AP General Insights The need is evident for knowledge sharing and capacity building based on the level of national strategy activity around the world. This activity is also at sub-national and city levels, and this self- organizing power is a critical leverage point for SD. Therefore, knowledge sharing and networking should also include these levels. Europe well established in regional networking and capacity building. ESDN, EEAC, Udalsarea21 all good examples to emulate Networking and capacity building in other regions will require UN leadership Timing of the new UNOSD is very good Timing of the new global network on NCSDs is also very good Need to find reliable and cost effective virtual meeting technologies What is the best model for networking going forward?
