This map is just the beginning. San Francisco is full of museums!
Description: There are so many museums in San Francisco that its just about
impossible to list them all: the Asian Art Museum (Chong-Moon Lee Center for
Asian Art and Culture), the Walt Disney Museum, the Cartoon Museum, the
Boudin Museum (Yes, we have a museum of sourdough bread), the new
Exploratorium on San Franciscos Embarcadero, right on the waters edge, the
Museum of the African Diaspora, and even the Musee Mechanique, a quirkymuseum located at San Franciscos Fishermans Wharf, featuring antique arcade
games that are surprisingly modern (and fun to play). The street artists who
paint portraits (and sometimes each other) at Ghirardelli Square are just part of
the art of San Francisco.
Sadly, as of this writing, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art is closed for
renovation, but there are so many other options for an art lover that you
probably wont miss it. Looking for culture? How about the Contemporary
Jewish Museum or the Mexican Museum?
Where you go and what you do is going to be up to you. Paul/Beatrice will
authorize tickets for up two museums. We suspect that once you integrate your
museum trips into your teams reporting themes youre going to have lots more
ideas about what else to do.
What youll get: CalTrain and MUNI tickets (2 rides per student) plus boxed
lunch. Tickets to museums.
What you need to plan: Pick the museums you want to visit and tell us so
we can get tickets for you or set aside the money youll need. You may wish to
take a cable car to Fishermans Wharf, for instance. (Your MUNI ticket will not
cover this so ask us in advance if you want to do this). Can you find an expert
or additional destination relevant to your reporting theme? Who will you talk
with? How will you get there and back?
