WA STATE SYMBOL ASSIGNMENT: NAME: DIRECTIONS: In Chapter 1 of Washington State History the authors identify state symbols. Now you will create a concrete symbol and fact paragraph about the state symbol you were assigned. Below you will find the specific information and record notes about the symbol you were assigned. Create the FINAL COPY in pen on the back. Expectations for the assignment: 1. Picture Side: Create a Concrete Visual of the Symbol: This means you should create with words a picture of your symbol. (For example if you were assigned the state fruit then you would take facts about the WA apple from the notecard and make an apple with the words) (10 points) 2. Read the Fact Card: Before you can write a paragraph about the symbol, read about the symbol and when it was created, etc. Take notes on topic, topic sentence, and main idea about the symbol. (5 points) 3. Paragraph: Write a paragraph EXPLAINING the facts about your symbol. This should be 5-7 sentences and include a lead/hook as the first sentence and a main idea as your second. (15 points) 4. Final Copy Expectations: Complete a rough draft on your own paper and the final copy on the opposite side of this paper. a. Pen (Blue or Black) for the written portion b. Color – The Concrete Visual Symbol should have color. c. Symbol Title – Write this in the box. d.
