What is Podcasting ?
• An audio recording posted online, much like a short radio show.
• Think of a podcast as a radio show. Each show consists of a series of individual episodes that you can listen to how you want — on your PC, using your MP3 player, or with just a web browser.
Definition of podcasting
• Podcasting is a term used to describe a collection of technologies for automatically distributing audio programs over the Internet using a publisher/subscriber model. It differs from earlier online delivery of audio because it automatically transfers the digital media files to the user’s computer for later use.

Encoding Techniques
Recording the Podcast
• we recommend using Adobe Audition 1.5 or above• If it’s primarily speech:
– record at 32, 56 or 64kbps– 44.1 KHz, Mono or Joint Stereo– MP3 or AAC
• If it’s primarily music:– Record at 64kbps or above– 44.1 KHz, Joint Stereo– MP3 or AAC+
• Name the audio file– sequential – (or) Date sensitiveness
Editing the Podcast
• Any good multi-track editor would work– Adobe Audition 2.0 or SoundBooth– Samplitude– ProTools– GarageBand, SoundTrack Pro– Sound Forge, Nuendo, Cubase– Freeware
• Audacity (audacity.sourceforge.net)• Ardour (www.ardour.org) for Mac / Linux
Polishing the Podcast
• Clean up audio – reducing background hiss and other noises, remove clicks and pops.
• Music Loops (if needed)– easily add intro, background, and transitional music to your podcast
• Use Multitrack editing– Edit each track in a way most ideal for its audio characteristics– Cleanly remove unneeded audio segments, and add or delete silence
to smooth dialog sequences– Dub new narration for existing audio to a new track
• Audio Processing– Use the compression and hard limiting features to make dialog
clearer and to smooth out unwanted differences in volume– Add reverb to simulate various acoustic environments
• Timing adjustments– Stretch & compress audio duration to fit length
Polishing the Podcast IIAdobe Audition 1.5 Processing
• Audio Processing– Effects > Amplitude > Hard Limiting
• Limit Max Amplitude to -.2 or -.1 • Boost Input by 6 or 7 dB
– Effects > Amplitude > Normalize – Effects > Amplitude > Dynamics Processing
• Audio Processing– Effects > Amplitude > Hard Limiting
• Limit Max Amplitude to -.2 or -.1 • Boost Input by 6 or 7 dB
– Effects > Amplitude > Normalize – Effects > Amplitude > Dynamics Processing
Polishing the Podcast IIAdobe Audition 2.0 Processing
• Audio Processing– Effects > Amplitude > MultiBand Compressor
• Effect Preset: Broadcast
– Effects > Amplitude > Normalize
• Audio Processing– Effects > Amplitude > MultiBand Compressor
