1. “Anti-Plastic Bag Campaign” (27 Nov 2015)

Who: Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Tourism/National Committee for Clean City Assessment, Union of Youth Federations, and UNESCO Office in PP

Aims: developing a plastic reducing and recycling habit among Cambodian people, enhance their knowledge of reducing, recycling, reusing plastic waste and stop littering plastic waste on the streets.

Event Details: A celebrating ceremony will take place at Wat Botum, Phnom Penh, with short statements concerning plastic issue in Cambodia by all the partners. There will be a special presentation of a short video feature, “Plastic never dies,” produced by UNESCO, Exo Foundation and Phare Ponleu Selpak.

Afterwards, a morning mobilization of youth groups would be organized with the main goal of collecting the plastic in some areas in Phnom Penh, in order to raise awareness on plastic waste reduction and recycling.

2. “Clean Green Cambodia” Who: Simplon Cambodia Limited Aims: An intiative to remove plastic waste and educate the public.

The “Plastics to Power” concept aims to reduce the amount of un-recycled public waste in Cambodia while providing a commercially viable alternative to fossil fuels. There will be the ability to convert significant amounts of plastic/recycled waste to fuel oil each year. Most importantly CGC will launch a public awareness campaign on waste management and recycling. The engagement of local waste collectors will also have a positive impact on urban poverty and culture.

Event Details:• Company will pay a premium for plastic delivered to sites strategically spread

across the urban landscape for easier access. There will be no disruption to the current collection supply chain. Sales of plastic will stimulate the local economy and local employment. Positive public health will have a direct impact on urban poor communities.

• Schools & Educational FacilitiesMedia campaigns using television, radio and print to educate about the importance of a clean environment. • Engagement of schools, including site visits, educational tours, lectures and

sponsored school projects. Any economic benefits derived from school-sponsored recycling drives are expected to go directly back to the schools. Youth and public engagement with “Clean Green Cambodia Days” will help engage the community and generate interest from international media about the initiative.

3. “Don’t Waste Your Waste campaign” (Batdombong)

Who: the EXO Foundation & the Cambodian Education and Waste Management Organisation

Aims: accustom the community to a cleaner environment while also providing a productive and sustainable use for the trash.

Event Details: gather discarded plastic bottles and fill them with other rubbish. The stuffed bottles are then used as bricks with one small construction project already completed.

Economic incentive : empty bottles normally sell for 30 riel, while full

bottles earn collectors 150 to 200 riel.

Highlight- List of NGOs

Friends (www.friends-international.org, 023-986-601) and the Community Sanitation and Recycling Organization take paper and other products such as plastic bags.

The boutique Smateria (www.smateria.com, 023-211-701) takes plastic bags, paper, cardboard boxes, milk and juice boxes, and plastic straws.

Prime Tech (#10A, Street 324, Tuol Kork, 012-975-800 or 011-975-800) will take printer toner cartridges and sells recycled cartridges.

The Anana computer store in Phnom Penh center has a recycling bin for batteries.

The Children's Surgical Center (http://www.csc.org) will take reading (and other) eyeglasses.

Organizations such as LICADHO (http://licadho-cambodia.org/, 023-360-965) and Friends will take used clothing, electronics, and other items for donation to needy families or to sell.
