SPANISH DAY

An exhibition is more than simply putting something on display; it’s about creating an experience.

Bringing together a number of the services they offer such as design, large format printing and the supply of display systems, Exesios has worked for exhibitions on both a local and international scale at locations such as London, Milan and Ceuti in Spain.

One in five people in North Staffordshire dies from a

lung disease, that’s more than die from cancer or heart

disease.

One in four admissions to children’s wards is because of

a respiratory disease.

One in seven children and one in twenty five adults has

asthma and the number of cases has doubled in the last

ten years.

Lung Cancer is the greatest cancer killer and accounts

for around 35,000 deaths in the UK each year.

About 900,000 people in Britain have COPD (a group of

conditions including bronchitis and emphysema)

accounting for over 10% of all emergency hospital

admissions and 35,000 deaths per year.

There are no cures for any of the above and the

incidence of deaths from respiratory disease continues

to rise.

Breath of Life needs money to fund the research which

will bring cures closer and to provide equipment to give

better treatment to people who are suffering from

respiratory problems now.

Your help can enable us to find cures and treatments

for people with lung disease.

Founded in 1997, Breath of Life is a local and

independent charity set up to tackle the particularly high

incidence of respiratory disease, such as asthma, COPD

(chronic bronchitis and emphysema) and lung cancer in

North Staffordshire - due in part to the region’s industrial

legacy.

Breath of Life funds research into the causes,

treatments and cures of lung disease; provides

respiratory equipment to hospitals, clinics and patients’

homes and promotes issues relating to lung health.

Since most lung conditions are still without a cure, much

work remains to be done. But progress comes at a price:

research is a lengthy and expensive exercise, usually

taking up to 3 years and costing over £100,000 per year.

Medical equipment for respiratory patients can cost as

little as £200 or as much as £30,000.

Funding, however, is in very short supply. We are heavily

reliant on the generosity and support of local people of

North Staffordshire, whom the charity primarily aims to

help.

Your legacy can make a lasting difference to people

with lung disease.

page3Breath of Life works closely with local health practitioners

at all levels.

We provide equipment such as pulse oximeters and

spirometers that help people to be diagnosed and treated

in their GPs’ surgeries or local clinics and so reduce the

time that patients need to spend in hospital.

Of course we also help hospitals so that they can have

the best possible equipment for their needs. For example

we have provided specialist hoists and Carbon Dioxide

Analysers and supplied the North Staffordshire Research

& Development Centre with a mobile respiratory testing

unit.

Research is vital and we recently provided local

researchers with £60,000 towards a project involving

150 local families where asthma was present.

The project identified one of the genes that causes the

condition, bringing a cure one step closer.

Other local projects requiring funding include a pilot

research project aiming to reduce asthma symptoms in

children, the support of a Pulmonary Rehabilitation centre

in the area and improved facilities for young people with

Cystic Fibrosis who face long hospital stays.

Our website www.breathoflife.org.uk gives up to date

details of our current projects.

Breath of Life

Why we are neededHow we make a difference

Breath of LifeRebranding and Campaign: Exesios has launched a competition run through local press radio and television to find the charity’s new “face” to engage the hearts and minds of potential donors and volunteers. The winning portrait, coupled with the purple peopled silhouette, created a new brand that gestures towards the range and variety of people whom respiratory illness affects.

Impact: The campaign and rebrand instantly made Breath of Life one of the best known and best loved of the area’s charities, smashing donation targets by 200% in the first year.
