I have just returned from theAmerican Football CoachesConvention and the NationalOrganization of CoachesAssociation Directors annualmeetings. The thrust in all coach-ing activities today is ‘CoachingBeyond the Game’. Teachingcharacter has always been a signif-icant part of our job as coaches,
but has definitely jumped to the forefront in today’sworld. CHARACTER is the difference maker not onlyto improve performance, attitude and teamwork, butalso to produce quality people on and off the field orcourt. To engrave means to “impress deeply”. Let’smake every effort to engrave the character qualities tobe complete.……………………………………………………………
NOCAD has affiliated with the ‘Jason Foundation’, anorganization that provides life changing and life sav-
ing programs for youth suicide awareness and preven-tion. This foundation is a nationally recognized leaderin youth suicide awareness and prevention programs. They take a Grass Roots approach utilizing a network ofCommunity Resource Centers to reach communitiesacross the nation.
I urge you to go to www.jasonfoundation.com
to become totally acquainted with the programs offered.
Saving one young person would be a ‘job well done’.
With the many commercial clinics available throughoutthe country many Coaches Association Clinics are suffering for attendance. Associations need theseactivities to keep in touch with members as well as theservices offered. It is important that we, as coaches, support our association clinics as well as other clinics.COACHING CLINICS ARE A GREAT TIME TO
LEARN AS WELL AS ENHANCE RELATIONSHIPS
WITH OTHER COACHES.
……………………………………………………………Membership in the ICA includes an insurance policywhich provides $1000000 dollars in protection forcoaches while participating in coaching activities whichalso includes their sport camps. Classroom and sexualabuse defense coverages have been added this year. We, at the ICA, feel as if this is a benefit which allcoaches can take advantage of by becoming an ICAMember. (Check the information in this publication)……………………………………………………………We can’t stress the importance of our corporate
partners in the operation of the ICA. Check their web-site and ad in this edition. Remember-Give them your

Football Officials Needed-Illinois High SchoolsCoaches and Athletic Directors are encountering much difficulty in secur-ing officials for Football Games. Many games are being moved to alter-nate dates, thus disrupting the organization of high school teams. Their isdefinitely a need for interested parties to become involved as a highschool football official. This a great way to stay involved in high schoolsports and work with young people. Encourage young people interestedin football to pursue this avocation, or at least visit with some veteran offi-cial about the benefits of this involvement. Who knows where it could leadthem!! Contact the IHSA 309-663-6377
