Learning formatEach elective course entails attending King’s Business School for three or four days of taught sessions, presentations, group work, simulations, networking and debate. This is followed by coaching, and a Capstone day where everyone comes together to present and get feedback on their personalised projects.

The institution-based methods study requires attendance at some appropriate research methods day courses, to be selected by individuals in consultation with MSc programme staff.

The institution-based study itself, and the dissertation, will be completed independently, at home and in the workplace, and both will tackle core management challenges and topics identified by the candidate. For each of these two courses participants will have an individual supervisor from the King’s Business School faculty. There is no requirement to travel to King’s Business School for meetings with your supervisors: these can, if wished, be conducted over Skype.

The Tavistock InstituteOn some programmes, faculty partner with the Tavistock Institute, which has a global reputation for its work on workplace dynamics, to deliver simulation exercises to allow participants to ‘practice’ the theory, including:

● Experiment in organisational life, stepping back,

observing and noticing. ● Work and lead across organisational boundaries. ● Research and reflect upon the impact of your

leadership on others.

AssessmentTo be awarded the MSc you need to successfully complete four taught courses in total, plus two large pieces of individual work: an institutional study which develops and demonstrates your research skills, and a dissertation.

Each elective course is assessed individually; this may include a personalised project or presentation and an extended essay.

Frequently asked questions

When can I apply for the Executive Management MSc? You can apply to start the MSc at any time once you have successfully completed two individual executive education courses for credit.

What is the time commitment? Is the MSc part-time, full-time or distance-learning? Do I need to be based in London? This is a part-time programme and participants will usually also be in full-time work. Each course involves a combination of time spent at King’s iconic Bush House campus in London, and individual work and study. Because the on-site sessions are scheduled as a block, usually four days and either side of a weekend, they are designed for executives from anywhere in the world – we have had participants from Mexico, Australia, Canada, West Africa. The dissertation and institution-based methods study will be completed by individuals from wherever they are normally based. However, the institution-based study also requires attendance at selected research methods teaching sessions, selected from the Business School’s postgraduate research methods teaching programme.

What is the cost? The flexible format of the programme is reflected in the fee structure and financial commitment; the MSc fees are payable in stages as you apply and complete the component courses.

In 2019 individual executive education courses cost £2,500 each. If you progress after taking two taught courses (£5,000) and enrol for the full MSc in 2019/20 there is a single additional fee payable of £8,000. This means a total fee of £13,000 for the Executive Management MSc. Please note that this is a special introductory offer for participants completing an executive education course and enrolling for the MSc during 2019–20. In future years, fees will be aligned with those for the Business School’s other Management MSc degrees. There is a 10% discount for King’s alumni.

Can all the individual Open Programmes be taken for credit and not-for-credit? When do I need to decide if I want to progress to the full MSc? Yes, they can all be taken for credit and not-for credit. Taking them ‘for credit’ means you are set an additional substantial assignment; however, the course fees are the same. You will need to choose one or the other when you apply because the online admission system requires this, but you can change your mind once you arrive. You can take the individual programmes in any order that works for you. You should decide and apply for the MSc once you have completed two elective individual programmes but can then take the additional two at any point that is convenient.
