Presentation Notes
Passionate Curiosity – Kathy displayed an infectious sense of fascination with everything going on around me, continually striving to develop me into my best self, leadership style defined by questions rather than the answer, showing genuine enthusiasm, giving off positive vibes – she makes me feel like I can accomplish anything if I put my mind to it. Battle-Hardened Confidence – to take on challenge and relish in it, to want the tough assignment when the pressure is on, taking ownership of the challenge instead of looking for excuses, to face adversity with a sense of calmness, to embrace failure-value it-learn from it Team Smarts – understand how your team works, the different roles of individual players, and how to get the most out of the group, how to make people feel like everyone’s getting credit, have each other’s back, believing in your people, knowing your bench strength Simple Mindset – be concise, be brief, get to the point, make it simple…ask for what you want Fearlessness – Kathy taught me how to make discomfort my comfort zone by calculated and informed risk-taking. To do something and not just wait to be told or someone else will do it for you, to be able to make decisions and follow your gut.

Presentation Notes
The Surprise That Await You – All eyes are on you. You set the tone, so the sooner you appear comfortable leading innovation the quicker your team will have confidence in you. Creating a Sense of Mission – The art to leading innovation, the secret ingredient that makes people commit more of themselves to creating the greater good, to make extra effort, to make it personal and not just a job (share story of kid we sent to Denver) Small Gestures– Take the time to really listen and meet 1:1, following up on “small stuff” (how the page is sent out), Big Payoffs-When you figure out what makes their eyes light up and what they get excited about Be Bold, Be Courageous-Ask the hard questions, challenge the status quo, stand out in the crowd

Here’s my elevator pitch about being a healthcare leader in innovationAn innovative leader goes above and beyond what is expected as a healthcare provider. Innovative leaders rise to the challenge, display vulnerability and know when to be disruptive to bring out the best in their people, their team, their organization, their community and world. Innovative leaders feel a weight of responsibility and intense scrutiny…they also feel an overwhelming sense of pride and joy, knowing that what they do every day really does matter to improve healthcare.
