Introduction
The Diocese of Fall River is standing on the threshold of a
life-changing chapter in its 113-year history. To mark this
moment, Bishop Edgar M. da Cunha is engaging hundreds
of Christ’s faithful in a planning process that will forge a
bold vision for the future of the Catholic Church in
Southeastern Massachusetts, Cape Cod, and the Islands.
In advance of this collaborative strategic planning process,
the Diocese has established The Catholic Foundation of
Southeastern Massachusetts and seeks an entrepreneurial
and experienced Executive Director to oversee the work of this important entity.
THE DIOCESE OF FALL RIVER PROSPECTUS | 2
The Executive Director will be a talented leader and skilled development professional who will map out the
Foundation’s philanthropic path and guide the growth of the Foundation’s fundraising footprint at a truly
pivotal time for the Diocese.
The Bishop recently shared the critical tenets of the Diocese’s
strategic plan, Rebuilding in Faith and Hope, in a letter to the
religious and lay community. The Board of Directors of The Catholic
Foundation of Southeastern
Massachusetts is a dynamic
group that mirrors the ambition
and innovation of the Bishop, and
is poised to help attract
community leaders and philanthropists who are ready to stand shoulder
to shoulder with the Bishop to help advance the mission of the Catholic
Church.
Reporting to the Co-chairs of the Board of Directors, Pat Carney and Nick
Christ, and working closely with Bishop da Cunha and the other Board
members, the Executive Director will be a fundraising expert who believes
in the power of philanthropy and who can thoughtfully and effectively
implement best-practice strategies that will fundamentally and
significantly increase philanthropic results for the benefit of the Diocese.
The Executive Director will understand the Diocese’s past, maximize
current funding opportunities, and create a sustainable fundraising
program future to ensure and enrich the diversified services and programs
on which its parishes, schools, Catholic Social Services, and other vital
ministries of The Church rely.

The Diocese of Fall River’s most critical charitable initiatives rely on philanthropic support from individuals
and organizations, which are then distributed across the Diocese:
The Foundation to Advance Catholic Education (FACE) provides scholarships for families that qualify
for financial assistance, as well as funding for professional development and technology
improvements at its schools; and
The Catholic Charities Appeal is the annual drive to help the Diocese fund a wide array of services
and apostolates, from food pantries and homeless shelters to youth programs and spiritual retreats
to legal advocacy and family counseling, and more.
The Catholic Charities Appeal raised $4.5 million in 2016,
$4.79 million in 2017, and has a $4.7 million goal for the
current fiscal year, which ends on June 30th.
By 2022, the Foundation is expected to raise $9 million
annually through the Catholic Charities Appeal, as well as
deliver an additional $5 million in major gifts from individuals.
In addition, in the next two to five years, the Executive
Director will undertake the planning of a capital campaign for
the Diocese that will focus on raising endowment funds.
