2Monthly V.O.I.C.E. of Business | October 2016 Printed and designed by:

• Foster relationships with next generation members who desire to impact the community

• Contemporize member communications

Objective 2: Build capacity for increased economic and leadership resources Outcomes:

• Recruit and develop professional staff that is a leader amongst regional organizations

• Create catalytic leaders for the Chamber and the Tri-Cities

• Align Chamber resources with the Chamber's mission

• Champion community and economic development initiatives

Objective 3: Lead the region to a dynamic economy and quality of life Outcomes:

• Advance policies that strengthen business and improve the region's economic climate and quality of life

• Develop solutions and advocate for actions that optimize the region

Lori and the Chamber staff have been defining a set of actions that we will take to achieve these objectives and outcomes. Needless to say, your Chamber will be moving out boldly in new directions to accomplish this lofty plan. We have already launched two actions that support the desired outcomes 1) a new position, Economic Affairs Director, was created and we are in the process of nationally recruiting a high caliber individual to fill it, and 2) a Regional Affairs Committee was established to advise the Board on strategies/issues that will optimize the Tri-Cities as a region.

The future is beginning to unfold -- one where the Chamber will have broader impact on the Tri-Cities to better cultivate an environment conducive to growth and sustained success of our member businesses. Stay tuned to learn more about how the Tri-City Regional Chamber will help shape it.

Chair Message

The Tri-City Regional Chamber of Commerce does many things to enable the success of our members -- in particular, we provide a host of services and benefits for your business. However, we can be even better -- but this needs to be in the context of a future that is likely to be considerably different than the past. In this vein, the

Chamber Board of Directors met almost a year ago to map out a new strategic direction informed by the Horizon Initiative, a forward-looking evaluation of how the future for chambers will likely change considerably over the next 10 years. This thoughtful outlook was developed by the Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives. Further, we need to be positioned to capitalize on several expected changes unique to the Tri-Cities, likely to reshape our business environment -- rapid growth in the region projected to be 30% or more over the next decade, a changing demographic, in addition to millennials, of minority residents and a quickly developing entrepreneurial ecosystem that has spawned organically in our area.

Over the past year, a subset of the Chamber Board working with Chamber staff has distilled the information outlined in the Horizon Initiative, combined with local input and crafted a strategic plan that, over the next several years, will help us both invent and be ready for an evolving future. This strategic plan was recently approved by the full board and the Chamber staff began implementing it even before the ink was dry.

Summarized below is the newly adopted strategic plan of the Regional Chamber with three strategic objectives followed by the desired outcomes.

Objective 1: Engage stakeholders utilizing innovative strategies

Outcomes:

• Maximize engagement and relationships with diverse leaders across the region

Supporting Hanford Cleanup Now and in the Future

When construction began at the Hanford Site in 1943, few could have imagined the evolution from plutonium production for the Manhattan Project, to the Cold War, environmental cleanup, and now a National Park. Hanford’s evolution has become a legacy for our community and our nation.

Mission Support Alliance (MSA) is proud to serve the Department of Energy (DOE) and this legacy as we support cleanup efforts and assist in the preservation of Hanford’s history. As the site integrator, MSA provides diverse and unique services – similar to the services we all depend on from a city government – reliable power and water, safe roads and emergency response crews.

As we manage and modernize services at Hanford, we are committed to ensuring the safety of our employees and the Hanford workforce. MSA continues to be a Voluntary Protection Program Star recipient, an award which recognizes our commitment to excellence in safety and health.

MSA is also committed to making a positive impact in our community. Through both corporate and individual support, we focus on giving to organizations that make a difference. These include Junior Achievement, the Children’s Reading Foundation, the Boys & Girls Club, the Children’s Development Center, the STEM Foundation, WSU Tri-Cities, the Tri-Cities Cancer Center Foundation, and many more. We are also proud to support the Tri-City Regional Chamber of Commerce.

At MSA, we will continue to demonstrate our commitment to a bolder, brighter and better future, both for the Hanford Site and our community. We remain focused on providing the necessary services to DOE and other Hanford contractors to ensure cleanup workers have the tools, training and resources to get the job done safely and cost effectively. We are grateful for the dedication of our employees who deliver results and support this mission that is critical to our community.
