About the Unit• In the American Government Unit we will be exploring the

• What is federalism and how is a part of the United States Government?

• What is the Executive Branch of the United States Government and what is its role?

• What is the Legislative Branch of the United States Government and what is its role?

• What is the Judicial Branch of the United States Government and what is its role?

• What is a political parties and what system of political parties is a part of the United States Government?

• What is the electoral process of the United States Government and how are the States involved in this process?

Executive Branch

• Executive Branch - The part of the government that “executes” or administers the daily activities of the government.

• In the United States the Executive Branch is lead by the President of the United States through the Federal Bureaucracy, which are all the parts of the government under the authority of the President.

Executive Branch in Practice...

• The Executive Branch is the largest part of the United States Government, it currently has over 2 million employees, which does not include the United States Military which is controlled by the Executive Branch.

• The power of the Executive Branch has grown over time even though this was not intended by the authors of the United States Constitution. Originally they were afraid of too much power resting with one person, as it had with the King of England.
