Paseoimprovements‘progressingwell’The refurbishment and, insome parts, the constructionof the Paseo Marítimo(‘promenade’) that will con-nect Marbella and San Pedrode Alcántara is “progressingwell,” according to the Mayor,Ángeles Muñoz, who visitedthe site last weekend.
The works, which includeimprovements to the pedes-trian pathway from CoralBeach to the mouth of the RioVerde, a new car park, and afootbridge over and the Gua-daiza River, are being financedjointly by the Junta de Anda-lucía’s ‘Plan Qualifica’ initia-tive and the Town Hall.
The construction of thefootbridge is now possible af-ter the Town Hall reached anagreement with the commu-nity association of Urbaniza-tion Los Pinos.
The Municipal Library in thePadre Manuel Cultural Centreofficially opened its newly ex-panded premises to the publicon Monday.
The two new halls (named'Antonia Guerrero' and 'MaríaZambrano'), which have dou-bled the size of the library, in-clude 112 new study places,more than 3,000 new referencebooks, over 100 new specialist
journals, 12 new internet sta-tions, and an international sec-tion.
A spokesman for the Libraryhas confirmed that the addi-tional space will also eventu-ally allow for the creation of anextensive digital and paper ar-chive centre for the municipal-ity. The 385 square metre-facili-ties are found on the secondfloor of the Cultural Centre.

‘City ofKnowledge’ getsthe green lightFollowing two years of nego-tiations, the Antonia Guer-rero Foundation (which wasestablished to manage the landwhich was left to the munici-pality by the Nadal-Guerrerofamily) has reached an agree-ment to start financing thebuilding of the ‘Ciudad delConocimiento’ (City of Knowl-edge) development, which willbe located in the Saladaviejadistrict.
Having sold plots of land inLa Lobilla area, the Founda-tion now has the resources tomove the project forward.
The ‘City of Knowledge,’which has been designed byManuel Toharia, the directorof the Príncipe Felipe ScienceMuseum in Valencia, will bea high-level educational facil-ity focusing particularly onculture, languages, technologyand communication.
San Pedro
Calls for SanPedro tunnelpetitionThe Deputy Mayor of San Pe-dro, Miguel Troyano, hascalled for local residents to setup a petition demanding theMinistry of Development com-plete the San Pedro Tunnel onschedule, and provide a de-tailed timeline of when eachsection will be finished.
In a statement, Troyanoclaimed that before the pro-ject was 'paralysed' there weremore than 250 workers on site,and now there are just 25. “Itis completely inadequate,” hesaid.
Work was halted on the 60million euro-project in Julyfollowing cutbacks in centralGovernment funding. Thishas since been over-turned.The tunnel will allow trafficon the A-7 motorway to rununderneath the centre of SanPedro to help ease congestion.
Félix Romero, from theTown Hall, says: “Not morethan half a month ago, thePSOE held a press conferencesaying that it would use allthe Government’s resourcesto move this project forward.”
In response, the PSOE saysthe Town Hall is “looking forartificial controversies.”
