Barnsley College
Sustainable Construction
KMB was appointed as Quantity Surveyor
from feasibility through to completion. The
project was a new build teaching facility for
Barnsley College demonstrating green and
sustainable construction technology;
including, Green Roofs, Photovoltaic Panels,
Wind Turbines, Air Source Heat Pumps,
Ground Source Heat Pump, Bio Mass Boiler,
Rainwater Harvesting, Straw and Wool
filled Insulated Panels.
The project was funded in part by the European Regional Development Fund and achieved BREEAM excellent. Location: Barnsley College Contract Value: £3.5 million

Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation
Office Fit out
KMB was appointed as Quantity Surveyor and CDM Coordinator for this high quality contemporary office fit out of developer’s shell and core, over ground and first floors which incorporated offices, meeting rooms and ancillary areas. The site is located in Hoxton Square alongside The White Cube Gallery in the heart of the London Arts and Media Scene. Location: Hoxton Square, London Programme: 29 weeks Contract Value: £1 million

M&S Simply Food
Terminal 5, Heathrow Airport
Situated in Terminal 5, Heathrow Airport Airside, KMB was appointed Quantity Surveyor. The works included the fit out of a clear shell and core space provided by BAA to provide a Marks and Spencer Simply Food retail offer. As well as the fit out works completed by the Main Contractor (including joinery and partitions, finishes, mechanical and electrical) there were also many M&S directly employed contractors to be appointed and co-ordinated within the fit out (including signage, chiller cabinets, till systems, retail fixtures, security). Although the terminal was not live during construction, the airport environment presented challenges regarding access, security, health and safety and construction standards and requirements imposed by BAA, which were all overcome. Marston’s New Build Public Houses
KMB is appointed to provide cost and project management and construction safety services for Marston’s design and build roll out. KMB also manages Marston’s client directs and compiles their health and safety files / building manuals. KMB has been involved in over 70 schemes on site as part of a nationwide programme of delivering and completing projects on time and within budget. KMB is working on
numerous other feasibility schemes with Marston’s. The schemes typically consist of a 180 cover public house and restaurant, with back of house kitchen, cellar and staff area complete with manager’s accommodation. Location: Nationwide Programme: Typically 23 weeks Contract Value: £1.3 - £3 million per project

Marston’s Marston’s House Head Office
KMB was appointed to provide Architectural and Quantity Surveying Services for the complete refurbishment of Marston’s Head Office Building in Wolverhampton. KMB also acted as Principal Designer for the project. The project comprised extensive demolition works including stripping back the existing building back to the existing concrete frame, extensions to and provision of a new external shell, introduction of a four storey central glazed atrium and the fit out of new office spec, business centre and collaboration areas. This complex project involved working with a varied multi-disciplinary team including the Project Manager, Mechanical and Electrical consultants and two separate interior design teams. KMB also provided an enabling works package for the temporary occupation of nearby offices whilst the programme was underway. Location: Wolverhampton Programme: 46 weeks Contract Value: £8.8m

National Railway Museum York Bar and Restaurant KMB was appointed along with external award-winning designers, to refurbish the two existing catering offers and to form a new pizza offer within converted shipping containers. All of the works were carried out within a live museum environment, the phasing and site set up had to protect the exhibits, the visiting public and staff. NHS Property Services Harford Street Health Centre
KMB was appointed to provide cost and construction safety services for the fit out of a new health centre with various medical facilities. The new centre provides a range of additional services such as, dental, consultation, minor surgery and an adjacent community pharmacy. Including formation of new consultation rooms, treatments rooms and associated ancillary works. KMB was involved from project inception, feasibility and through to the successful completion of the project. Location: Central London, Tower Hamlets Contract Value: £2.1 million Programme: 32 weeks

Paul Smith Albemarle Street
KMB was appointed as Project Manager,
Quantity Surveyor and CDM Coordinator for
the construction of the Paul Smith Ltd new
London Flagship Store. The project provided
retail space to the ground floor, and exhibition
and storage space to the basement.
The project included the trademark mixture of
Paul Smith design, carefully considered
materials and furniture to create a luxury retail
experience. Features within this project
included; cast iron cladding to façade of Nr 11,
linking Nr 9 at the rear with a bridge, feature
staircase, and the creative design of one room
completely covered with dominoes.

Paul Smith Albemarle Street Offices
KMB was appointed to provide Project,
Cost Management and CDM services. The
project involved the complete strip out,
structural remodelling of the lift shaft and
refurbishment of four floors of A* grade
offices which covered 30,000 sqft plus
residential accommodation above.
This project was undertaken in the heart of
Mayfair, only yards from both the
prestigious Browns Hotel and adjacent to a
Grade 2* listed Victorian Arcade. The
shared reception area was also refurbished
to a high quality, whilst maintaining access
through the ‘live’ space, serving the
adjoining offices.

Paul Smith Amsterdam
KMB was appointed as monitoring surveyor and to
assist the client’s representative with the
construction procurement process. The project
provided retail space to the ground floor and
basement of an existing, recently renovated
building and included the overhaul of the existing
shop front, forming a new staircase to the
basement, high level of finishes (including
terrazzo floors) and furniture manufactured and
shipped from the UK.
Designed by Paul Smith’s in-house team, the
Amsterdam store provides a modern luxury store
but still includes the Paul Smith trademark of
interesting design, finishes and fixtures.

Paul Smith Beak Street
KMB was appointed as Project Manager, Quantity
Surveyor and CDM Coordinator for the construction of a
new store. The project provides retail space to both
ground and basement floors.
Designed in-house, the project included the usual eclectic
mix of Paul Smith design. The ground floor has a
traditional feel with oak flooring, panelled ceiling and
antique styled furniture. The basement is modern in
comparison with in-situ terrazzo floors, clay rendered wall
finishes and ply furniture. The project also included a
new bronze framed shop front and feature staircase.

Paul Smith Terminal 5, Heathrow Airport
Situated within Terminal 5 at Heathrow Airport
Airside, KMB was appointed to complete a full
Quantity Surveying and CDM service and to also
provide assistance to the Client’s representative.
The works included the fit out of a clear shell and
core space provided by BAA. The retail space was
divided into two areas; Modern and Vintage with
specialist made joinery and decorations to reflect
the space.
Although the Terminal was not live during
construction, the airport environment presented
challenges regarding; access, security, health
and safety and construction standards and
requirements imposed by BAA, which were all
overcome.

Restaurant Associates City Social, Tower 42
KMB was appointed as Project Manager, Quantity Surveyor and CDM Co-ordinator working
alongside Russell Sage Studios to completely refurbish level 24 of Tower 42 for Compass
Restaurant Associates, in association with Jason Atherton.
The project involved stripping in its entirety the existing restaurant, kitchen and office areas to
form the new offer; including a dedicated customer entrance for the restaurant from Old Broad
Street.
The project was logistically challenging with restricted lift capacity and working restrictions
required to keep disruption to other tenants to a minimum, however, was completed on time
and within budget.

Scottish Exhibition & Conference Centre Café / Deli Unit / Bar & Restaurant
KMB was appointed in conjunction with external designers to form a new café/deli unit by converting existing offices and to replace a small coffee unit with a 300 seat bar and restaurant including new kitchen. KMB was involved from feasibility through to post opening support. Works were carried out in a live exhibition environment in a technically challenging environment. Southall Car Storage
Bespoke Car Storage Unit
KMB was appointed to manage the feasibility stage, to prepare scheme design proposals and to prepare the outline budget estimate for the scheme. The private client was seeking to fit out two new warehouse units in London to form car storage, including ground floor and mezzanines areas for collectible cars, spares and general automobile paraphernalia. The scheme also included an art gallery type full height car display area together with high quality offices with external secure parking/storage areas.
