Marks breakdown
50% of marks come from your SAC results throughout the year (25% from unit 3, 25% from unit 4)
50% of marks come from your exam results
Exam
Three sections:
a) text response
b) writing in context
c) language analysis
3 hours and 15 minutes: 15 minute reading time
Text Response
You can choose to write on either Mabo or Brooklyn.
There will be two essay questions for each text to choose from.
Writing in contextOne prompt for all students studying “Issues of Identity and Belonging”.
You can choose to base your writing piece on Summer of the Seventeenth Doll, Wild Cat Falling or both texts (but choose one as the main emphasis)
You DO NOT write a statement of explanation in the exam, so connections to the text MUST be evident in your piece.
Language Analysis
All students in the state analyse the same material
May be a ‘single’ article analysis, or you may need to compare pieces.
Typically involves some sort of visual element that you need to analyse (eg: a graph or photograph as part of the overall article)
Study Tips
Don’t bother studying the things that you already know
Practice writing as many different pieces as you can
Search the internet for practice exams
